  1. when i play the .mov using vlc media player, there are few moments in the .mov that gives the error bad file descriptor then crashes the desktop and i had to close it. i have it pasted on the desktop and i cannot move the .mov, windows 7 gives the error cannot read source file from disk. i cannot edit it with any sort of video editing software because it will crash the desktop. i've been searching for methods to repair .mov for days now, i cannot find any solutions from google that does not require payment. but i can still watch the corrupted .mov using vlc media player, i just have to skip forward the parts that crashes the player, but i cannot watch it without having it crashing all the time, i cannot make a backup of the video etc...

tldr; minor damaged 57mins .mov recorded using iphone, video still playable but have to skip moment(s) that crashes the player (bad file descriptor), cannot edit vid with any software will crash the desktop (not responding), cannot copy/paste it (windows 7 says cannot read source file from disk)

Video repair tool then. It's not free but it will try repair half the file and you will see how it works. Or mp4repair.org.

I guess you have tried mpeg streamclip? Open and resave the file?

But I don't think you will find any easy free method to fix it.

  6. I would also give quicktime a try since it's the basis of Apple video. If nothing else, once it's installed mpeg streamclip ought to let you snip out the bad bit.

  7. mpegstreamclip worked, but no audio recorded after conversion

  8. What were your export settings? If you're exporting to .mov or .mp4 your video should be h.264 and your audio should be MPEG-4 AAC

yup, i went FILE -> Export to MPEG-4 i have the footage saved, now i just need to recover the audio, when mpeg streamclip converts my corrupted .mov to .mp4 it did not record the audio starting from 2:33, any ideas?

  10. Does any part of the audio after 2:33 play in MpegStreamclip at all? If so maybe you need to cut out a bigger chunk. If not, maybe its just gone. --Grasping at straws a bit here.

Another thought, did the 57 minute video max out your iphone memory or did a call or text try to come in while you were filming? Those kinds of events may have caused the file to be written improperly.
