I saw this on the news the other day. I can't believe anyone would fall for that.
It's obviously cgi and hokey cgi at that.
Its about as bad as those cheapo saturday night scifi/horror flicks that run on the Syfy channel. Even some of those have better cgi than this mermaid deal.

i will say that the reaction of the "scientist" with the beard when the other "scientist" showed the footage supposedly taken under water looked genuine to me, he was a convincing actor.
