    Hi all

Having a major problem with .mov video files.

    Format: HDV 1080i50, 1888 x 1062, Millions
16-bit integer (Little Endian), Left, 48.000kHZ
16-bit integer (Little Endian), Right, 48.000kHZ
    25fps

I am running a windows system.

Quicktime will play the audio but show no video.
Windows media player will play the video but no audio.
VLC will play the audio but show no video.

I need to be able to import these clips into Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 to stitch together but when importing the clips I just get sound but no video.

What do I need to do?

    Thanks.

It doesn't seem to be so easy. See http://forums.adobe.com/message/4011562#4011562

It looks good. Try the demo and see if it's worth buying. And google it for user comments/reviews.

Have no budget for it unfortunately.

So there is no way (even if I forget the audio) to import the clips into Premier on windows?

I can view them in VLC perfectly by turning on the deinterlacing option.

    You could also read https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/342967-Open-MOV-%28HDVA%29-file-for-edit?highlight=hdv+mov

and see that it's incredible complex....

I can't believe it's this complicated. Why can VLC play the video but Premiere not?

  10. Because VLC uses ffmpeg libraries. Premiere cannot read MPEG2 in MOV without 3rd party plugins . You need either the calibrated plugin , or MPEG2 decoder component for quicktime to enable quicktime playback

Did you try any of the ffmpeg workarounds mentioned? Since VLC can play it, VLC should be able to convert it, or use ffmpeg/ffmbc to rewrap into transport stream (.m2t, .mts, .m2ts)

Yup got it into .m2ts which Premiere can read. I don't suppose there is anyway of getting the audio out of it to put on the permiere timeline as well?

Also, to get the clips to play in good quality in VLC I had to turn the deinterlacing on. Is there a similar option in premiere?

    Thanks

How did you get the .m2ts ? It should read audio as well if it's multiplexed in the transport stream, or you can import the audio separtely

Deinterlacing degrades quality - it "looks" better, but it isn't .

Not only that , there are higher quality deinterlacers than yadif or bob in vlc, those are low quality deinterlacers meant for real time playback

Anyways - premiere will automatically deinterlace for the preview only if you have it setup correctly (project settings hdv, top field first), files interpreted correctly (top field first) . It will apply a deinterlace if you render a progressive format if you have it setup correctly. Depending on your end format goal, you might want to leave it interlaced. Also, premiere's deinterlacing quality isn't that good compared to other solutions (e.g. QTGMC in avisynth)
