Samsung HT-E4500 blu ray blank DVDr disc playback problem

First post here and i'm hoping someone who has the same player can help.

I just bought this a couple of weeks ago and i'm having problems getting a decent blank DVDr disc to play reliably on it. (not interested in burning blu ray)

I use DVDFab (have done for 3yrs) and have never had problems backing up my new dvd movies. For the last 3yrs they would play fine on my panasonic dvd player. Now it is a real lottery trying to play them on the Samsung.

I have tried various medium but get the same results. Pixilated, stop for a second, jump a couple of frames and continue or just stop and refuse to go any further. sometimes they play fine until the last 10mins and then give up and freeze and sometimes the same brand plays fine. It is very annoying.

Does anyone have the same player that has a tried and tested branded DVDr medium? I have tried TDK, JVC, Intenso and maxell. (All played fine on the old panasonic player)

I just want to insert, press play, open a beer and watch a movie without my fingers and toes crossed i am going to be able to watch it to the end.

I'll give you an honest answer, but you may not like it.

The brands you have tried are ALL crap. ALL of them. If you want to go down the "but they played fine on my __________ player" path, then you probably can't be helped. We hear this all the time. "It CAN'T be my brands." But it is. Last year we had one Aussie grandmother post something similar to your post and we told her to get better discs and she completely nutted the hell out. Had a meltdown here like we don't often see. We're not kidding. Quality DOES matter.

The ONLY reliable high quality media made any more is Taiyo Yuden (you must buy it online) and Verbatim (all good except for their cheap Life brand of discs). Buy better discs and you'll have better results.

Your Samsung is probably fussy about media quality and Panasonic wasn't. I've got a Samsung 3D BluRay player and I burn to Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden DVDs and they all play fine in my player. Now if you want to try to make your low quality discs have a better chance of working, burn them at a slower speed (NEVER above 4x) and you may get better results from them. You really should use the free ImgBurn for burning instead of whatever (DVDFab?) you are using now. DVDFab is fine, but I wouldn't use it over ImgBurn for burning.

To summarize:
1) Buying Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim discs is your best answer.
2) Use ImgBurn for burning.
3) If you don't want to do #1, then burn at 4x or even slower.

I like. Very sound advice. I have ordered Verbatim and until they arrive, I will try Imgburn at a lower speed.

Just a quick update.
The cheap media burned at 4x was still pixilating badly.

The Verbatim are great. Burned at max speed and not one bad movie.

Glad to help. Thanks for letting us know that the Verbatim discs solved your problem. We try to tell people that all brands are not alike and quality does matter, but some don't want to listen. Your experience is proof that this kind of problem can be solved with better quality media.

I am not sure if they are "AZO" or not.

All I can tell you is I have now watched 12 films burnt to Verbatim using DVDFab with imgburn (max speed). All have been great and I have my sanity back. Peace now reigns between me and the Samsung.

Those discs are fine.

Almost everything Verbatim sells uses AZO. It's actually hard to not buy it. As long as you avoid the "Life" series (different from their excellent "DataLifePlus" series) you get AZO. I looked at your link. You're fine. I don't know if they even sell the "Life" series in the UK. It may be that you can't buy anything but AZO in the UK.

I couldn't agree more.

I've been burning DVDs for ten years now, and always used Verbatim DVD+Rs. I've burned over 1600 discs and had maybe a couple bad burns.
