  1. Recently I downloaded a video, what I think might be VCD? I don't know, I'm quite the newbie at this.

The audio is compressed, and is mp3. And the video itself is 640x272, and in AVI format.

I'm trying to make a VCD out of it to play on my Panasonic DVD-RV32 player that I just got.

I'm trying to convert the video from AVI in TGMPEnc to an MPG so I can burn it...However, I would like to keep the aspect ratio in widescreen format, I don't want it at 352x240, it makes it look very squished.

The topic says it all, is it possible to make a vcd with a widescreen aspect ratio of 640x272?

And if so, what program should I use to convert it from the AVI to the MPG in this format.

And both discs are roughly 91 minutes, so I assume I'll need 99 minute (800mb) CDs?

  2. 1) Your downloaded movie is a DivX file, not VCD
    2) You can create a VCD as Wide Screen, but not at that resolution, not even SVCD is that high.

  3. Ok, any recommendations as how to decompress it and get a widescreen aspect ratio and resolution that's VCD compliant? As well as compliant audio

  4. To keep the same aspect ratio as your source, you'd be a (roughly) 352x150, and youd have TMPGenc add in 45 pixels of letterbox on both the top and bottom, giving you a 352x240 video.
As Churchill famously predicted when Chamberlain returned from Munich proclaiming peace in his time: "You were given the choice between war and dishonor. You chose dishonor, and you will have war."

  5. Ok, I used virtualdub to decompress the audio to .wav, and now I'm trying to get a new aspect with TMPG...Thanks for the help :)

I know what you mean i have been trying to get around that problem for about a week now. What you do is go to tmpgenc choose other settings in the wizard project then find and click advanced, go to source aspect ratio and choose 16:9 display then right below it go to video arrange method and choose fullscreen(keep aspect ratio) and thats it now you have a widescreen.

  8. Welp, after burning, the only thing I'm slightly annoyed as is the tinny sound on the high end of the audio....I tried an encoding in SVCD, but that didn't fix it either.

No real biggy though, I'm very happy.
