  1. I have two tv episodes that are about hour long on each of them. So total of 2 hrs to one dvd5.
They are in mkv file format. And I used avstodvd to convert them over to my dvd.
The first episode plays nicely. The video is outstanding and the audio is clear and sync'ed.
But when the first episode plays thru to the 2nd one the video is still outstanding but the audio is broken up and you can hardly hear it. It does sound like its in sync but you just can make out what they are saying. So basically its not clear or understandable.
Can someone help out a noob? Not sure what I am doing wrong when trying to do two files to dvd.

What I tried as burning them each to separate dvd's which worked fine both video and audio is clear but I wanted to keep the two episodes together on one disc.
    What am I doing wrong?

Then the only answer is that your source(es) are crap. Buy them on DVD or Blu Ray.

  3. how could it be crap if I burn one episode to a dvd and it sounds fine? burn the second episode to another single dvd and it sounds fine? But burn both episodes together and the second episode has sound problems?

If you hadn't said the audio is only bad if you burn more than one encode to a DVD I'd probably have lived the remainder of my life certain that's not possible.

Maybe avstodvd is doing something odd when converting, if the two MKVs contain different types of audio? Have you tried playing the converted files using the PC (from your hard drive) to see if they sound okay? Given they work okay burned to separate DVDs (and I've never used avstodvd myself so I'm guessing) I assume avstodvd converts them separately when you're burning them to individual discs, so maybe use it to convert the two MKVs as though you'll be burning them to individual discs, save the encoded files to your hard drive, and then use something like DVD Shrink to make a single DVD out of the two avstodvd encodes. There might be a better way to go about it, and I am guessing, but I can't think of another reason why the second audio would be bad when burning them both to the same disc.

  8. _MrC_ sorry for the late response. I was able to re-do the project today. I tried burning both episodes again today and the first episode is flawless in video and audio. Then the second one is flawless in video but the audio is just broken up and not understandable at all. Again when I burn just one episode to one disc but are flawless in video and audio. I tried selecting the sound @ 192kp and now today @256kp. I burned them to a dvdrw first then I thought maybe it was due to using a rw. So I tired a +r and got the same results. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong in the audio settings or what is wrong????
Here is the DVD_0 log file on it.

  9. It does not make sense to me: the 2 titles have a AC3 dvd compliant audio track, that is retained by AVStoDVD "as it is". No re-encoding at all. From the log file there are no errors.

If the AC3 audio track of the 2nd title is broken, it should be broken always, on the source file, on a DVD with 1 title, on a DVD with multiple titles.

The only thing I can suggest you (without understanding what's going on), is to force audio re-encoding: go to 'Edit Title'/'Audio' and toggle off 'Auto Audio Setup' and 'Audio Direct Stream Copy'. Then run again the project.

Something I noticed, the "demuxing" for the title 1 audio took 45 seconds, while the second title
took over 5 minutes. Could be a red herring, but I thought I'd mention it.
    Quote Quote
  12. Thanks Davexnet, what does that mean or what should I look out for or????
    Quote Quote
  13. @davexnet

you are right, 5+ minutes to demux 120 MB is too much. It could be caused by a bad muxing, but I am surprised that running the same title alone the OP says that the output is fine.

    @Boozer

could you post the log file of the project with only 'Sons.of.Anarchy.S05E08.720p.HDTV.x264-EVOLVE Ablation.mkv'?

  16. There is a difference between the 2 projects (2 titles vs 1 title): the audio demuxing routine has failed and the backup audio encoding has been started:

That's strange and inexplicable from my side.

BTW I think that you can fix the issue by forcing audio re-encoding, as suggested some posts before.

  17. I will try your suggestions. Ill post my results. Thanks again.
Oh would you like me to do the episode 7 by itself and post the log file? Just to see what it does or no?

Regarding Sons.of.Anarchy.S05E08.720p.HDTV.x264-EVOLVE Ablation.mkv, I tried it myself and received
some kind of error during the demux, so I suspect there is something wrong with the file.
    Here's the screen grab:

  19. Thanks Dave for the try and report.

Now the mystery is to understand why one title (that title?) is ok and 2 titles are not.

Does the ac3fix run or get bypassed under certain circumstances ?
(Is the ac3fix step mentioned in the log at all?)
    Quote Quote
  21. The ac3fix step is always performed when a AC3 file is retained.

try converting each file separately to MP4 with the same resolution video bitrates/quality and the same audio settings/encoding
use high quality settings to get the best conversions to MP4
then load the two mp4 files into avstodvd to create your DVD
IF needed, you can reduce file size in this step or with DVD shrink

i have had lots of trouble MKV files in the past and now i totally ignore them and refuse to have anything to do with them,
i was never able to link separate MKV files into one dvd with any amount of good success ,something was always wrong

  23. Thanks for the info on the mkv files being problematic. First time I ever used them and wont be a fan of them any longer. Im going to try out both suggestions just havent had time to do it up yet.
