There must be a spoiler website out there dedicated to filling out all these questions. I'm sure a little search online will give you everything you need.

Those aren't my type of movies so I can't help you. I'm not into that type of scifi - the horror stuff. Though I actually have watched Event Horizon and liked it - well the scifi part at least......
Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?

@vhelp - you might actually try the yahoo movie pages. They have users give ratings for movies when they see it. Now granted of course theres going to be the super fan nuts that say every movie is perfect and a must see and there'll be those who say every movie is horrible. But there should be an overall arc of valid opinions in it.

I wouldn't necessarily go by any overall rating in imdb or other website, I'm sure thats more marketing than any true representation of it. However I think whatever the movie earnings were should be a good indicator too. I'm not talking lord of the rings or harry potter money but whatever is typical for a horror genre (I hate using that word but I can't think of a good alternative to use) movie. If its in the ball park of other well received horror movies than I would say its probably a decent film for that type movie.

I quite liked it myself, though if I were to sit down with a pen and paper I could think of lots of things to criticize about it. In fact I haven't seen anything else in ages that had so many things wrong with the story ... way too many unanswered questions and setups for sequels ... that I liked that much.

But ... it looks just great. It's not a coincidence that Ridley Scott was an art director in movies before he was a director. It looks awesome, and it's not overloaded with CGI for its own sake.

Very good cast too ... not just the sort of mediocre flavor of the month types you often see in those movies. Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender are two of the best current actors.

I don't pay too much attention to imdb ratings either. Too much thinly disguised PR, just like most critics. But they do have the advantage that they're largely done by the movie's intended audience.

So I guess this is a qualified recommendation ... if you expect the story to cohere novelistically you may not like it. But for me movies are primarily visual language. On those grounds it's very good.

  7. I haven't watched it yet. I am looking forward to watching it. I am tempted to go rent it, as I noticed at our local store they have a poster up for it. Money is kind of tight right now, so I will probably have to put it off to a better time.

I rented it last weekend. Great movie.

In fact, I went back and watched Alien after it ... and was disappointed in the original.
It's not held up. My memories of it are better than the movie itself.

I feel asleep watching Aliens. (My fault, too tired.) I'll restart it this weekend.

actually, the original is Alien. the sequal was Aliens. Alien was the best 'unique' scifi movie of this franchise, IMO.

    I know that.

I finally watched Aliens now, too. I liked it a lot better than Alien. In fact, I think I mostly remember the sequel, not the original. I realized this when I saw the loader mech. Aliens was a better film to me.

I called my mom and asked her why anybody liked the original Alien. She said it was an early use of subliminal music, where the theatre had a near-constant heartbeat rumbling under the music and sound effects. And as most people know, the sound of a heartbeat has an affect on you in varying ways.

At some point, I may watch Alien 3 and Resurrection, but I don't recall liking either of them. Honestly, I find the entire series disappointing. The whole thing is rather sad, as there's no satisfaction for anybody, just unending misery. So I think I've seen enough. I prefer the hopefulness of Star Trek. Even Star Wars isn't as negative.

The biggest issue I found in Alien was bad content editing. There is stilted movement from scene to scene in some places. I tried to find a torrent of the fully extended version, but it's not seeded anywhere anymore.

  11. To me the original "Alien" is best because it was quite unique at that time and it inspired me to watch the rest of the movies in the franchise.

Yes there is another abrhams startrek coming. video game voice actor nolan north will have some part in it. with the reset timeline i don't know how they'll do any 24th century spin offs. unless they do alternate alternate reality story arcs (not a typo)

though you could do a q story to bring the 24th century crew into a movie.

It's kind of funny because I had NO idea it had anything to do with ALIEN

I saw a description of the movie and thought, that sounds like it might be good....

I said something to a friend about it and she goes, "I thought it sucked when I saw it in the theater".....

Right then and there I knew it had to be good because the movies she likes I know SUCK!!!!
And she does not like any killer movies!!!
    LMAO!!!

When I started watching it I thought to myself, this sure seems to give me the feeling of the ALIEN movies

Then I heard the reference to WAYLAND and I was like okay, this can't be a coincidence!!

And when I saw that huge ass gun looking thing the "alien" sat in I was like I know that is from alien!!!!
Is this some kind of a ripoff movie ??

Then the huge facehuggers, even though they did not appear to be the exact same, I was like this HAS to be connected to the original ALIEN movies!!

Then when I was done watching it and saw the credits I was like I knew it!!
Ridley Scott and some other names hit it home right away!!

I thought it was excellent and bought the Bluray to go with my Bluray ALIENS set!!

See, I knew if she did not like it, it had to be good!!
She did not connect it to the ALIEN movies at all because she never saw them!!

She won't watch either of the GREMLIN movies again since she watched the first one years ago when it first came out because it freaked her out and still does!!!!
    LMFAO!!!!

When the DVD came out I bought it and enjoyed the movie very much. The video quality and production was excellent. It was obviously done by Ridley Scott i.e. very well done. The moon they visited in Prometheus was a different one from any of the other Allien movies. It is kind of a parallel story about how the Alliens might have been created in the 1st place. And yes it definitely left the door open for subsequent follow-ons".

It is interesting looking at other forums that discussed the movie and the varying opinions about the movie. I though it was quite thought provoking and has a lot of questions to be addressed in future movies.
