The school has been in the headlines recently because of plans to reintroduce a uniform which was abolished in 2003. A consultation was hosted earlier this year, after which it was announced that the majority were in favour of a uniform. However, many have alleged that the consultation was a whitewash and was conducted so that the school could do what it had wanted to do anyway. Students protested, and some were punished for what the school described as truancy. The head teacher was even quoted on one news website as saying that students who refused to wear the new uniform could be expelled.
