  1. Hi, I have a 3dtv and recently purchased my first 3d blu ray. My 3d blu ray player is erratic at best, but the warranty is up, so I ripped an ISO to my PC.

I want to convert the main movie file to a video file that I can play by plugging a USB into my tv. Using dvdfab, I converted it into a SBS avi file.

It works fine, the 3d looks good on my panny plasma. However, I can clearly see that the resolution has been cut in half. Seems a bit pointless to me to watch something with an active system that looks like it is coming from a passive system, as the resolution is halved

Is there any way that I can rip the Full HD 3D video file to view on my tv?

    Thanks

not unless your tv can play 3840x1080 sbs. or 1920x2160 ou. it is most likely time to get a new 3d br player.

NO tv's can play 3840x1080 nor 1920x2160. Yes, you should get a new BD3D player. However,

You could take your full-rez SBS and play it with Stereoscopic player from an HTPC that uses nVidia 3Dvision if your Panny supports it. This would be spitting out 100 or 120Hz video through the HDMI, so the Panny would have to be able to support that framerate from it's input (not just GENERATE that framerate as many TVs do).

Or, more likely, you could go back to your ISO rips and play the ISO with TMT (which supports playing decrypted ISOs), as long as you have an HDMI 1.4-compliant card, and it should give you the full quality experience, same as if it were coming from a physical disc.

But DO NOT give 1/2 rez 3D such a bum rap. As an owner of an LG passive 3DTV, and after having done LOTS of comparison testing prior to buying it, I can assure you that 1/2 rez on Passive (or active) 3D is still a quality experience (wouldn't have bought it if I though otherwise). Hell, 3D using SD resolution is still an ok experience.

agreed. i have a dozen or so nicely made half sbs mkvs that my samsung plasma 3d tv plays very well. good enough i don't need the 3d blu-rays.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. 3DBD is still the BEST experience next to theatrical. I for one am always wanting to maintain the BEST quality (if possible). I just know that there many times where it's NOT possible.

I neither go in for "they're all the same", nor "this one's great and all the rest are crap" lines. Both are dumbed down from reality.

3D is gay and hurts my eyes. Just saying.

Well, maybe you have strabismus, or are a cyclops or something. Just saying.

Just curious, how is that answer helpful to the OP?

Thanks for the help. I think I'll go down the PC route as it'll be cheaper, but I'll happily buy a new 3d player if the PC method doesn't work out

I will try out TMT (can Cyberlink powerdvd 11 do the same thing? as I already have a copy of that). I'm pretty sure I do have a HDMI 1.4 card (EVGA GTX 680), but I think I only have an HDMI 1.3 cable plugged in from the GPU to my TV - is the HDMI 1.4 cable necessary?

If so I will purchase one and try it out

    Thanks

AFAIK, tmt is the only one that supports ISO.

Hdmi cables are neither v1.3 nor 1.4. They are either high speed (which you want) or not.

That gfx card should be ok.

  10. Fulci was having us on, of course.

Isn't the above a lot of trouble to go to, just to avoid getting a new 3D BD standalone? After all, a basic 3D Samsung player can be had at Amazon for ~$60, or an LG BD670 for ~$90 (I have one). All very interesting though.

BTW, not long ago, a member stated that DVDFab can *now* do a true 3D re-encode to BD25. Apparently it's true, if one can believe Fab's website. I'm doubtful the quality will be very good, though perhaps I shouldn't pre-judge. I'll have to try it.

[EDIT] I've captured a good many SBS videos from Comcast XFinity 3D with my HD-PVR. (Actually, it's the only way I can watch them, since the TV requires HDMI input to display them correctly from cable box. And of course mine is component.)

Anyway, they're pretty good, even at the reduced resolution. They edit fine with tsSniper.

  12. Op, since u already use dvdfab, download the latest version of dvdfab and use "bluray copy", > "copy as bluray 3D, then select 25gb option.
This will output 3D bluray fully menu that fit on 25gb disc.

Before you do that, read what warning I said regarding this tactic on that other thread...

  14. Ok here's what I've done

I copied my 3d bluray onto a spare disc using imageburn. Out of curiosity I tested it on my ps3. It actually works. The ps3 and tv detect that it is a 3d movie, and it plays in 3d mode (it's not sbs, it's slightly blurry which when you turn the 3d glasses on makes the image 3d)

Are these images the same as I would get from a dedicated 3d blu ray player, or are they only 1080i? Note I am using a hdmi 1.3 cable (if this matters)

    Thanks

  15. If you"re using dvdfab, try ask in dvdfab forum.
For your question i think its the same 3D with lower images quality.

Which is EXACTLY what I suggested (in that other thread) might be going on!

I just finished driving 15 hours, so I'm not going to do anything today, but I will get back to you all tomorrow evening.

Afa the dvdfab forum is concerned, that is a dead end for now. The forum rules say you have to be a registered member to ask a question, or even see attachments (and this includes simple pictures). And the forum is locked from accepting new registrations!
