    .

    I'm playing by connecting USB directly to TV, and what if I change format to MP4 HD ?

    Yes, you will lose quality if you run them through a converter. Using the player is a much better option.

    Even if it didn't lose quality it'd be a waste of time. If you change the resolution from a video encoded at 720 to 1080 it will not look as good as a video that was encoded at 1080. The information isn't there and you can't put it in.

    try mkvtomp4

    if the video in the mkv didn't use compatible settings that your bravia supports , you will have to re-encode it anyway

    Buy it on BLu-ray instead and you don't need to upscale anything...

    when i did that conversion and checked , it was saved with '.m4v' extension . i have seen on Wikipedia that m4v supports Dolby digital (AC3) audio.

    .M4V means it is JUST the raw, unwrapped elementary stream (aka video stream), without the container (MP4). You need to separately convert your DTS to AC3 and THEN put your M4V + AC3 into an MP4 container for it all to work.

  22. you might be able to do it with avidemux 2.6 in 1 step

    video=>copy
    audio=>ac3 (configure your options)
    format=>mp4

    or maybe convert to ac3 with popcorn mkv audioconverter , demux with mkvextract-gui2, re-wrap with yamb
