i have a .mkv video file with .srt subtitle file.
    1. i want to auto-adjust the subtitle vertical position while the video is playing in order to avoid text interference, between the added subtitle and the original video text. sometimes, i need the subtitle move to the upper position then back to the normal position.
    2. i want to make the subtitle burnt-in (permanent) to the video, also burn it to dvd so that i can play the video with my dvd player or other.

hopefully one of the more knowledgeable subtitle gurus can help me out.

Make a ssa/ass subtitle with aegisub. You can adjust position then.
Burn in the subtitle with virtualdub and vsfilter.

to Baldrick, i need some specific steps on how to use virtualdub. i've made the "ssa" subtitle and i raised the vertical position of a subtitle line then i played it on MPC, and it's rendered. just need few more steps on virtualdub to hardsub the subtitle on the video. thanks b4.

Baldrick, If you still need help let me know. I finally figured out the intricacies of virtualdub, its plugin, the ssa file made by aegisub and the tags that position the text in the subtitler for virtualdub. I have a text file that shows what does what in the .ssa file and what virtual dub ignores. Not too bad once you have an example. Mine took a lot of trial and error to get it right so I know how irritating it can be to create subtitles and then find out they play in media player but not vlc or virtualdub.
    Thanks
