  1. I don't know if this is the right place for this topic. My sister got a Samsung Galaxy Gio Smartphone last week. I was able to put some .mp3 files and some videos onto her phone. I was wondering if I was to get a public domain ebook file could it play on her phone. I think I might put a public domain audio book on her phone as well. Thanks in advance for any advice pertaining to this matter.

As long as it doesnt have drm you can use calibre to convert the ebook to something the phone can recognize.

As for audio you can always use a realtime recorder like audacity to record as the audio books play.

For the ebook calibre may not have a preset for your model but there should be something close.

  4. TreeTops: Project Gutenberg has quite a selection of public domain books in several different formats. LibriVox has public domain books in the audio book format. Thank you for your input.

yoda313: LibriVox has the audio books in both the .mp3 format and .ogg format. Thank you for your input.

YouTube has some pretty fancy e books with words coming up on the screen and a nice background and the ones I saw were public domain books as well.

So I am looking for an e book app that will work on the phone that is freeware and is spyware free. I also have to figure out what format to select from Project Gutenberg.

  5. I was able to get the HTML Viewer and another program on the phone to display a .html, .pdf and .txt file. The screen being the size it is though I don't think my eyes could take reading an entire book.

If you are JUST looking for an ebook reader consider something like a basic kindle - under a 100.00 new.

Also you can get refurbed tablets on places like amazon for a fair price. Just be aware if you get one with a mips processor you won't be able to run most android apps. You need an "arm" processor to run most android apps. And check out what version of android its upgradeable to.

I have a 7" tablet that I am pretty happy with overall. Except for its a mips processor so it can't run most apps. Other than it can do kindle and kobo and does most of what I throw at it. (a velocity cruz t301). This is a good "trainer" model. I'll know what to look for should I decide someday to buy a full fledged tablet.

  7. Well his original post talks about reading a e-book on a phone. I sure would not do that if I wanted any eyesight left for my old age. So getting a real E-book reader like Yoda suggests is really the smart thing to do.

  8. I got a tad obsessed about setting up some videos and music on my sister's phone. Then I thought it would be neat if she could read a book on their as well. I am moving on now, I think she will be happy with what is on there. My 17' monitor looks huge compared to the screen on that phone. Thanks to you both for your advice, it is much appreciated and it was kind of you two to take the time to help me with this issue.

Trust me I know the feeling. I can lose a lot of a weekend tackling something totally worthless but its just something I've got to nail down.
