I have a 2.35:1 DivX file (no black bars, just the pure image) but when I view this on my Pioneer DVD player via USB, the image is 2.35:1 letterboxed. I didn't rip this myself, but when I do rip DVDs, I change the 16x9 image to a 4x3 anamorphically stretched image, so when I view a DivX file on my HDTV, it is in true ratio.
How do I use MPEG4 Modifier to do this with my 2.35:1 image? I have tried all the pixel/display ratio options and a custom ratio but still, it does not play back properly.
Is there some way to re-author the DivX file so its horizontally squashed, without losing picture, so it plays back stretched out properly on my TV?

Of course it's letterboxed. It is wider than 16:9 so the TV fills in the top and bottom edges with black borders.
That makes no sense. The image in the DVD is already anamorphic. If you keep the original frame size all you need to do is set the aspect ratio flag. If you want a square pixel encoding you resize so that the frame size reflects the display aspect ratio. For example, a 16:9 movie should be resized to 720x404 then encoded as square pixel.
It's not possible to do with Mpeg4Modifier.You could force the player to fill the screen by setting the display aspect ratio to 16:9 (assuming your player supports the DAR flag, many don't) but then picture will be vertically stretched when you view it. If you want a true 16:9 picture you have to crop the frame down to a 16:9 ratio and reencode.
