I apologize in advance b/c I'm sure this post isn't in the right place.

Ok, so I'm not new to ripping DVDs, however, in the last few months I ripped all of my DVDs to my HDD. I typically use DVDFab for most of my ripping (sometimes DVDShrink), then VOB2MPG so I can stream to my Xbox360. I recently found out that I could just rip all vob files into one large one and simply change it to mpg and not have to use VOB2MPG.

The problem is--as I've seen many people have the same problem--I have movies w/forced subs, and I'm missing those subs when I watch my movies. I only want the forced subs. I've read numerous posts (here and elsewhere) about how to accomplish this, but to be honest, some of the explanations (including some of the tutorials) seem Greek to me...noob!

A friend of mine said I could use VobSub to extract the subs, then use Avidemux to put them "back" into the movie. I downloaded both apps, and have NO CLUE how to use either! Any help whatsoever would be appreciated, even if it means downloading different apps (as long as there's some explanation on how to use them).

    Thanks!

I guess it would be easiest to use for example handbrake to convert the dvd folder(video_ts) to a mp4 with burned in subtitles. See https://trac.handbrake.fr/wiki/Subtitles about forced subtitles.

Simpler than VobSub, try VSRip. Choose your .ifo, select language, check "forced subs only", go. If the subs contain sub tracks with a forced tag, you'll get a idx/sub set which you can embed in your video.

I just took a look at that. I'll give that a try first and see how it turns out. Thanks!

I've seen VSRip before, looks simple enough. I'm going to try @Baldrick suggestion first, then yours (if the results aren't what I want). Thank you!

After a bit of trial and error, I finally figured out how to get it done with Handbrake. Thanks again for the help!
