I have a BD611, which I have connected to internet and updated the firmware.

A friend has one too but doesn't have a way to connect it to internet, not practical to bring it to my place or anywhere else just to hook it up for the update. I need a link to e-mail him so he can do it. (I know he's at least that much savvy about stuff that he won't screw it up!

Since there is definitely a firmware update for this player, why doesn't LG have it available to download and put on a disc or USB stick to do the update? They do for some other players.

Why do you and your friend care about this update? BD player firmware updates are usually evil and meant more to take away functionality (ie. force Cinavia support on your player) than to fix problems. Unless you have some stupid player made by Sony that will refuse to play certain discs without updates, in my opinion you and your friend should not be worrying about firmware updates and if anything should probably avoid applying them.

the lg bd player updates i've gotten are actually useful and don't take away features. usually they speed up boot time and add stuff. but i've only experienced the ones for the 570/670 models others may be different?

if there was an update available it would be on the lg site. if your friend can get email, and download a file he can hook the player up with a cable to the net to have it check by itself to make sure. they make 100ft. cables should reach anywhere in most places.
