Hello everyone. This is a follow-up thread to my last thread "PCI vs. USB capture device".
So I couldn’t find any of Hauppauge products in my area(I’m not living in US) after a little research I bought Gigabyte U8300 USB which incorporates the same chip used by Hauppauge usb live2 (Conexant CX23102 decoder chip). It seems that it doesn't support YUY2, When I select it in Virtualdub, I get an error massage that says “The capture device does not support the selected format” and the only selectable option is UYVY, which I think is not a big problem.
In order to compare the quality of the capture device, I connected my old video CD player to the capture device using composite cable and captured a short video and then took a snapshot. Then I played the video cd directly in my computer and took a snapshot from the same moment of the video again.
The captured videos look narrower and there is some noise around bright colors. Is that normal? Since it’s the first time I’m capturing analog videos I’d like to get your opinion on the results.
Here are the results:
The first image is a snapshot of the video that played directly on my computer. I used the “2:1 double” zoom option in VLC player.
Resolution:352x288. Decoded Format: Planner 4:2:0 YUY.

The snapshot of the video that captured by Virtualdub at 720x576 using HuffYUV without de-interlacing:
