Hello fellow enthusiasts. A brief history about me is I normally watch dvdrips streamed from my pc to my ps3. But latley feel like I'm wasting my hd tv on dvd rips. Recently picked up a "hipstreet" 16gb flash drive to put bdrips on for the ps3. I got 2 movies, Tranformers 3 already in mp4 format with a file size of 1.70 gb. This went on the usb drive no problem. The second movie was fast five in mkv format at around 6gb. Converted it using "mkv2vob" still is around 6 gb but when I tru to put it on the tumb drive it tells me disk is full. But when I check the properties on the usb drive it shows 15.5 free gb. I've been playing with different features of mkv2vob with little sucess. Only way I can get Fast Five on the usb is by splitting the movie in 2 parts.....which still equals out to around 6 gb.. I'm out of ideas?!?

    Thanks in advance

  2. Check the format of your drive. It's probably FAT32 which has a file size limit of 4 GB. Go to Start -> (My) Computer. Right click on the drive and select Properites. You'll need to reformat it NTFS. Be aware that many devices can't read NTFS formatted drives.

  3. Remember also that most dvd s are split into vobs which are generally 1gb or less each. Thus a 7gb dvd folder (with all parts less than 4gb) will fit, but an DVD iso image of 7gb will NOT fit.

Now you will learn how to open your cage and take over the world mg:
Corned beef is now made to a higher standard than at any time in history.
The electronic components of the power part adopted a lot of Rubycons.

  4. FAT 32 has a limit on the maximum size of a file , i.e. 4GB
Anything more and the File isn't copied nomatter how much free space you have...

Going to recommend reformatting your flash disk to NTFS, but i googled that the PS3 only supports FAt32.

So you have to work with the device's limitations.
A more practical solution is to split your mp4 into 2 parts (with each segment not exceeding 4GB)

I saw some homebrew firmware updates... but i won't recommend that (might brick your PS3 in the process)

well crap the whole plan was to play it on the ps3. Is there any way to do it other then splitting the file? or any way to shrink the file size?

  6. Transcaode it to a similar type of video with a smaller birate and resolution, which will produce a smaller file...

The conversion processs might take some time depending how fast your computer is...

Thanks for the response I'm a little out of touch on this kinda stuff. How would I transcode it to a smaller file? I have mkv2vob right now will that do it or is there another program?

try ps3 media server. link (http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/) it will play anysize files direct over your network(stream to ps3)
at least thats what i use on all three of my ps3 in the house, my kids can access any tv shows or movies on my server at anytime as long as the server/PC is switched on & ps3 media server is running.
instead of converting them to fit on fat32.
or if you need to use USB
    try this guide
Convert .MKV to USB AVCHD for PlayStation 3 using mkv2vob
