Does anyone know if Babylon 5 was ever re-released on dvd 5 single layer pressed disc's ?

I have an original set from way back in the day when they first came out and they are on Dual Layer disc's.

I picked up a second set for my son off of Ebay as there are tons of them on there and they are quite a bit cheaper than buying them retail.

Now i have "silvers" from way back in the day before consumer DVDR media even existed and these look pretty damn legit, the packaging and everything but i have a bad feeling about these.

Either they are bootlegs or WB turned out some damn cheap $H!T!!

Here is info from DVDInfoPro on my original disc's,

The packages have the foilish/holographicish look to them, but i have seen the same covers with the older style dvd's like this one,

Which is what mine look like, but the new ones have the silkscreening all the way to the center hole where i put the red circle.
And they are lighter and the small print at the bottom is not as crisp as my original dual layers.

I also saw a review on Amazon from back in 2002 where someone talks about them being released on single layer pressed dvd's.

But i also know that taking what some one say's on amazon reviews is as good as asking the 7 year old neighbor kid....
    LOL!!

I am just pissed either way, regardless if i bought some damn silvers or WB screwed us all!!!

And the seller i bought them from on Ebay has a 100% positive feedback of 3000+ but i know that does not mean anything as i am sure most people are clueless about DVD media.

  2. UDF implementation ID = Nero on the single-layer disc. That looks suspicious to me.

Yeah that was the other thing besides the single layer disc.

That's why i posted the pics.

But i have seen official pressed dvd's that had been implemented with a program that was available to consumers.

Officially released dvd's that were sourced from Laserdisc's and they failed to edit out where the LD flips, etc.
I own some pretty strange dvd's where they have really done some stupid things when releasing them onto dvd.

And i would not put it past hollywood/WB to cheap out on a re-release by compressing and pressing onto single layers, although i would think the backlash from fans would hurt them.

They need to just pull their heads out of their @$$E$ and release the damn series on BLURAY!!!!!!!!!

I have both the original and the re-issue sets, they are both dual-layer. If your set is single-layer they are bootlegs.

    BOOTLEGS.

had friends come back from overseas with bootleg single layer PRESSED discs. (they knew what they were buying).

i would report the seller to ebay and the police (if payed via paypal then report there too) if you wanted dvd5 then you could have just ripped them yourself and not payed for them.

I can't believe this is not blindingly obvious, but you buy from Ebay because it's "cheaper" then you agree to take the chance that it may not be legit. You want legit then you buy from Amazon or a similar seller where you know for a fact that it's not a bootleg. I have bought some DVDs of Asian TV shows on Ebay and I don't care if they are bootlegs or not because the price is good and there's no official US release. If I cared I sure wouldn't buy on Ebay.

Warner Brothers has a program where they sell some budge titles pressed to order on single layer DVD-R discs. There are no extras on these discs. You get the movie and a menu and that's it. The fans don't complain because the only alternative would be to not put it out at all.

Babylon 5 basically has the same problem that Star Trek The Next Generation has with regards to its special effects.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Babylon_5#Mastering_problems
Paramount was willing to foot the bill to redo the effects for STTNG but Warner seems unwilling to do that for Babylon 5. Babylon 5 also used effect houses that are now out of business which means that their only choice is to redo all the effects or put them on BluRay and have them look terrible. I would not hold my breath about a BluRay release. STTNG is a valuable property that is still in syndication so that's why Paramount bit the bullet to pay for redoing them so they could syndicate them as a high def offering. Never say never but current feeling is that Paramount is unlikely to pay for Deep Space Nine and Voyager to have their special effects redone in high def. I'd put Deep Space Nine at about 50-50 for it to be done and Voyager at 30-70 but if Deep Space Nine does get done that would up the odds that they'll do Voyager too.

    Yeah, cheaper, not FREE!!
    It's not like i bought a $300.00 dvd set for $10.00.

I have bought & sold tons of stuff off on ebay since it's first year of existance and i have bought tons of things for a lot cheaper than retail stores or other retail sites that were legit and official.
And from all over the world, including "silvers" since before DVDR's even existed.....

And i have seen things for sale on amazon that i know for a fact are "pirated", just because they are on pressed dvd's does not make them legit, obviously....

I have also, but not just because i knew there was no U.S. release, but because i knew there was NO official release period.

But, as i stated in my OP, i have also seen official pressed releases that were mastered with consumer available software and were done badly on SL disc's and i wanted to make sure the cheap hollywood b@$tards did not re-release this before i started accusing someone with 3000+ positive, ALL positive, feedback of selling me some (pirated) "silvers".

I was 99% sure they were bogus after comparing them to the DVD9 set i have from years ago, just wanted to see if anyone else had any info on any re-releases.

Do you know why they were reissued? I have the original release. Anything special/extra on the reissues?
