  1. Hi there

I am looking into converting my DVDs to Blu-Ray, including the menus. I'm aware it can be done with DVD Logic products EasyBD & DVDtoBD, & am wondering if there are any others available as well?

Also, will this software keep the original size (or close to), as I would like to have as many DVDs on the Blu-Ray as I can?

My other option is, of course, AVCHD, but that means creating menus from the start, which I'd like to avoid, if possible.

I just thought I'd point out the only reason to do this is to have more than one movie on the disc. It won't do you any good to do software upscaling to bluray resolution. You won't gain anything and will probably make it worse.

If this is to "magically" make a dvd into a bluray save yourself the time and trouble. You can't do it. Just live with the upconverting a upconverting dvd or bluray player can do.

But if this is to take advantage of the size of the bluray and put more than one movie on it at standard def resolution than by all means charge ahead.

I just thought I should point out the obvious. Somebody else would have done it.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with this if it is for combining movies onto one disc.

  3. Hi Yoda

This is what I'm planning to do. More specifically, it's to place numerous episodes of TV shows I have onto the one disc. I did consider storing them on HDD, & playing back through my media player, but having them on disc instead is much safer.

  4. MultiAVCHD is wonderful, but doesn't convert the menus. I've managed to convert one DL DVD, using the trial version of EasyBD, but it didn't convert all the chapters properly? I did a 6 part series, & can play each episode separately, but not the chapters within the episodes.

Also, I cannot find any info on how to put multiple discs onto Blu-ray?

Thats becuase it technically can't be done, espcailly with a one click software package. You would need to re-author the menus (read as manually create the type of structure you desire). It can be done with mutiavchd but will be more difficult. Encore or simillar authoring suite will make the task a bit simpler but it will still be a chore. And if you truly want to undertake this type of task I would be looking at tools that would allow you to use h264. This would allow you to place more episodes per disk.

  6. So my best option would be to use something like DVDRemake Pro to create multiple DVDs, then convert from there on?

I'm not sure about the chapter problem, but have asked to join the DVD Logic forum, so I can get some answers there. DVD Logic seem to produce wonderful software, but there's not enough info available on how to use them before the trials run out.

I'd like to use h264, but creating files for extras seem a bit of a pain for what I'd personally like to do.

I did something similar to what you are trying to do, i was able to put Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Doll House and Fire Fly. On a single BD with the extras that I actually cared about in my RV for a road trip.

I used Hand Brake to encode all the episodes including English subtitle also encoded the extras I wanted to MKV. The menu structure went like this. I used Paint to create a 720 x 480 background that consisted of 1 image for each show. These images were link to sub-menus for each show. Which listed out each episode title. In the case of Doll House the sub-menu had links to sub-menus for season 1 and season 2 which in turn had links to each episode.

  8. I've discovered from the DVD Logic forum that EasyBD will not do more than one DVD per Blu-ray. I am now thinking I will just make use of the EasyBD software until thr trial runs out, mainly concentrating on things that I have in HD, but only released on DVD.

I liked the idea of having multiple episodes on DVD, but I may just consider h264, where the original menus are crap, & create AVCHDs? With others, where I do like the menus, I might just keep them as ISOs, & watch them through a media player, such as XBMC?

    Decisions, decisions.
