  1. So, I got Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD 11 Production Suite.

Everything about it is wonderful and works great. But I want to capture video from my LifeCam Cinema. And therein lies the issue.

The image shows up just fine, nice and clear, all that jazz. But when I set it to "widescreen", it just stretches the image wider instead of doing actual widescreen. I realize this may sound uninformed, but the widescreen element works just fine in horrible little Movie Maker, and I can't figure why it doesn't show up right for Vegas.

If anyone can shine some light, I'd be incredibly grateful.

  2. Think you'll need to be a bit more specific about what you are doing, for example, what is "it" that you are setting to "widescreen"?

This webcam supports a number of video output resolutions upto 720p. If the control software that comes with the webcam is set to some lower resolution at a different aspect ratio, that could be where the issue is. Perhaps Movie Maker has built in support to control the webcam resolution directly because it is a Microsoft branded webcam, but I'm just guessing at this point.

  3. The "it" being set to widescreen is Sony Video Capture.

When it is set at option "Multimedia", everything is perfectly proportional, but the framing is nearly square. When I set it to NTSC, it gets narrower, and thins the image. NTSC widescreen makes the preview wider, but stretches the image out instead of making it properly widescreen.

  4. At the bottom of Sony Video Capture, it reads "Microsift LifeCam Cinema" then "Source: 640x480" then "Display: 480x297". Not sure what the numbers mean; if I open up the LifeCam program, it's set to 960x544.

  5. It seems that Video Capture is detecting the source as being 640x480 which is a 4:3 aspect ratio resolution (ie not widescreen). Setting the video capture to widescreen then simply results in the video being stretched horizontally.

With the Video Capture closed down, open up the LifeCam program and set the camera resolution to 1280x720 (this is a standard HD widescreen resolution). Then open up the Video Capture and see what it detects the source to be.

  6. No effect. :\ Source is still 640x480.

  7. I'm not really familiar with the video capture utility in Movie Studio, but I would look for any options that give access to the camera driver because ultimately you need to change the video resolution that the camera is outputting.

  8. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
