With 95% of my rentals on long wait or worse is there any reason to use Nerflix?

I wouldn't think so. I did the math one day and it was actually cheaper for me to just buy the movies instead of having paying a monthly fee. Add to that no wait time, and i can watch the movie when ever i like as much as I like.
Murphy's law taught me everything I know. -
I am quite happy with Netflix. If you are not, then do as SingSing suggests and quit the service.

I stil think Netflix streaming is a great deal. What is your problem?

Yeah, there's a good reason.
They have a lot of unique inventory that you can't get anywhere else. Like the documentaries and music videos. And they have good independent films, not just the Michael Moore crap.
I've learned a lot in the past few years with Netflix, about evolution, the universe, the earth, nature, animals, American history, world history, and even about a guy in Texas that runs a Mexican wife finder service for American men and he drives them down there and it's a POV type film, very interesting.
Why not expand your knowledge for a measly $8 a month? Or watch Dance, bachelor, and talent shows for free and lose braincells.Last edited by budwzr; 9th Sep 2011 at 00:12.

It's been documented and known for years that when this happens to you, Netflix considers that you are abusing their service and returning too many DVDs too often. You may have a completely different idea about this, but sorry, Netflix doesn't agree with you. For example, if you are on a 3 DVD plan and you are returning 3 DVDs a week, I promise you that it will not be long before this happens to you. If you cut back how often you send stuff back, you will find that your long waits disappear. I'm on a 3 DVD plan and to be honest with you, I just don't have time anymore to watch 3 DVDs a week so I've been just sending back 1 disc a week and every now and then I send back 2. I never have to wait for anything. You may not wish to use the service under those restrictive terms and that is your right. Netflix is a business and shipping discs is not free so if they feel that you are taking advantage of their pre-paid shipping, they will throttle you.

I agree. I'm on the 1-disc plan and usually get 2 DVDs a week. Almost nothing in my queue is ever wait listed. Occasionally a very new release, and (obviously) not yet released DVDs. That type of material is rarely in my queue anyway.
If 95 percent of your queue is on long wait and RedBox has what you want, Netflix isn't for you. -
Plus the fact I like watching really old movies once in a while. I even have it on my Wii, where I can watch the streamed movies as well in my TV room. I don't have to buy any of the Star Trek episodes, I can watch any one I want whenever I want, without those annoying commercial breaks. I remember as a little boy we used to watch the Dark Shadows soap opera. I wondered what was my fascination with it was, so I started watching again on NetFlix. I was three of four episodes into it before I realized I was becoming addicted again. I'm staying with NetFlix.

There are no problems - only chances to excel.

jagabo and misterbill's experience is very different from other people's, but it is what it is. I used to return 2 or 3 DVDs a week some years ago when I had more time and they soon started making me wait for everything. I really don't get how misterbill could be returning 4-6 DVDs a week without Netflix throttling him prior to recently, but maybe he just slipped through the cracks.

He's probably not getting newly released movies on DVD......I found if you got tons of movies on your list they'll throttle you and make you wait....IMHO that's what I had experienced early on....but I don't do the quick turn around since I don't have much time as I used to......

I bit the bullet and paid the higher price, there are a lot of documentaries on Netflix streaming and it's still cheaper than cable/sat.
Netflix+Hulu+OTA= everything I need. -
I usually have 5 to 10 items in my queue. Maybe one out of ten is a hit movie. Two movies I recall having long waits for were Slumdog Millionaire, and Gran Torino. Both of which were added to my queue shortly after they were released. But during that time I still got same day turnaround on my other discs.
Unlike Blockbuster which had a policy of buying enough copies of each DVD so that everybody that came into the store could get a copy, Netflix buys only a few (relatively speaking) copies. That way they don't have hundreds (thousands? tens of thousands?) of useless copies a few months later. And that's why there's a long wait on newly released DVDs. If all the discs in your queue are new hits you're likely to have long waits on them all and delayed shipping.
I know they do throttle some people -- they even admit to it. But 2 discs a week on a one disc account doesn't seem to be a problem. -
You gotta be kidding.

And on a separate note, Netflix has a fairness policy that gives everyone a fair shot at new releases. Without throttling, a disproportionate few eat all the bandwidth meant for the many.
Netflix is not designed for all-you-can-eat new releases for every subscriber. Like a buffet, you're expected to eat some potatoes and salad too. If everyone that went in there ate only seafood and steaks, they go bust, unless it's priced way higher.
That's why HomeTown Buffet sucks, because for $8.99 it has to suck, to survive.
== Super Tip ======================================
Also, the best way to get good variety with NetFlix is to NOT give feedback and reset all your preferences to the middle, and go back over all the movies you've seen and rated and set them to 3 Star (middle) too. Then their software will give you even-money odds on EVERYTHING but it takes a few days to digest in their system. Don't do it all at once, just little by little you can "reset" yourself to default and start getting better selections.Last edited by budwzr; 9th Sep 2011 at 18:58.
