  1. Wonder if someone can shed some light as regards DV-AVI format size please.

I am trying to capture video to my pc using a Panasonic VCR and (PCI) WnFast TV 2000 XP Expert card (chipset Conexant CX2388X).

I am using PAL ie The Panasonic VCR, VHS tapes and WinFast are all PAL.

When I try to capture in AVI – uncompressed, the format result is 768x576 25fps as per screenshot below. All appears to be correct at this point.

When I try to capture DV-AVI (labelled DV Video Encoder in the capture card’s menu), the format result is 720x480 irrespective of what format size I choose in the WinFast card, as per screenshot below.

Now I understand that PAL DV-AVI should be recorded at 720x576 (and that 720x480 is the NTSC equivalent).

The 2 screenshots below are from the WinFast menu.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why the WinFast’s DV-AVI format is not as it should be ie PAL 720x576

Many thanks for any info provided

    Cheers

programming error in the software? it's doing a software encode anyway, even the framerate is slightly off. i wouldn't use it. if the final format is going to be dvd i'd try capturing to pal dvd spec mpeg-2.

You could try this (from the Leadtek website), not exactly your problem, but might resolve the issue.

    Q:
I could not select the Video Studio video format to either PAL or NTSC format. Why?
    A:
Remove Video Studio, then re-install the software again. During the installation, you can select the video format to be either PAL or NTSC formats.

I will be burning to DVD. I was trying to save as DV-AVI so that I could edit in Premiere Elements first (I understand that DV-AVI is PE's preferred format).
Not sure how else to do? Would it be better to try to capture the video in VirtualDub instead? I have read that the Codecida codec will allow VirtualDub to play DV-AVI but will it capture? (only a newb so learning)

I did run across that particular comment on the Leadtek site also but prior to following their suggestion, I thought I would ask you guys first. In the card's software, I see the tab for PAL & NTSC and I have PAL selected and showing.

I will try re-installing card and software and see how it goes. I did get the download the latest versions, perhaps this will make it work as it should.

    Cheers
