Since AVCHD (Advanced Video Codec High Definition) is a high definition recording format introduced by Sony and Panasonic, would a PS3 system (that has a blu ray player) play my AVCHD video file? For that matter, would all Sony & Panasonic Blu ray players recognize and play my AVCHD video files?

Ok, I went to my friend's house and his Sony Playstation 3 played my AVCHD video flawlessly with no problems.

There is no requirement that these devices play AVCHD files directly. Blu-Ray players only have to play fully authored Blu-Ray discs. It is a crap shoot.

Don't assume a player is compatible.

Well then since I had success playing my AVCHD video files on a PS3, I think I will get one.

You can download the player manuals to find out what they play.
