    Hi,

I don’t know what to do to fix this.

I have a AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directory structure which VLC Media Player plays without issues. This was created using AVSTODVD. So then I use Imgburn to place the movie onto DVD. When I take the finished DVD and replay it, the very last 10 minutes of the vid freezes for 3 seconds, then plays for 5 seconds, then freezes for 4sec, plays 4 sec, freezes, plays freezes, playes… etc. The closer to the end the movie gets the longer the freezing lasts for.

Maybe I am not burning the video right? All I do is use the Imgburn “build” mode, drag the VIDEO_TS directory to the Imgburn window. The program then tells me it will fill up 99% of the DVD space. Then I place a DVD in the tray, and press the “build” button.

    What am I overlooking?

The current disks are TDK "Life on record" DVD+R 1-16x speed | 4.7GB disks.

Can you guys suggest a media that is usually more stable than the ones I have and I will buy it and see if the problem disappears?

At the same time, do you think I can use the remainder of my disks by instead of burning 4.6GB, to burn 4.2GB to avoid burning onto the last 10% of he disk? All I would have to do is re-do the vid from AVStoDVD and just specify the size of 4.4GB ?

Taiyo Yuden discs (from Rima.com) or buy some Verbatim locally. TDK DVD blanks have been garbage for many years.

That's what I would try. Lower quality discs usually fail at the end of the burn, near the outer edge of the disc. Do a visual inspection of the edge and see if the dye is uneven there. BTW, single layer DVD-5 discs are actually 4.37GB in size.

Reducing the size of the file and avoiding that edge area can help. I used to reduce the size by 200MB with crap media. But some of it failed a couple of years later anyway. Not really a good way to save money. I only use TY and Verbatim now.

You guys were exactly right... it is the disks.

The weird thing is the first 80 disks were fine. The last 20 disks start showing the problem. The only rationale I have about this is that I think over time, these things start degrading on you, at least with these TDK disks they seem to.

I was able to cut down on the writable size of my files by 5% and the problem is now gone.

I guess it is Verbatium disks for me moving forward.

    Thanks for the help guys,
    EH

You might want to check those again. TDK media also has a habit of disintegrating...

One of the major problems with cheap media is inconsistency between batches or even discs within a cake box of DVDs. It may be the first 80 were OK, and the rest, problematic. Quality control problems. Hopefully the discs already burned are OK.

Slower speed burns with crap media can also be helpful. There is no way at all I'd burn those discs any faster than 4x if it was me.

I agree with olyteddy. Check those discs in another year or two as some of those "OK" ones may have already failed by then and become unplayable.
