Hello, i have a problem with this processors temperature, i looked all arround the web, looking for a Tcase for this processor. the thing is that im converting videos with RipBot264, and the processor load is arround 99.9% all the time, and the temperature somethimes reaches 75 C maximum. i read the temp with Core Temp and Real Temp, both give me the same reads. i was wondering if this temperature is normal for my processor. The Tjmax is 105 C.

And, do you recommend me to increase the fan's speed just a little??

    thank you

75c is a bit high yes. My icore 7 reaches only 60C.

So try increase the fan and see how it works.

Is this a laptop or a desktop PC? I would check the CPU cooler and fans for dust or lint and make sure they are clean. With a laptop, you may be able to blow out the dust from the outside, but you must lock the CPU fan first. I use a plastic zip tie temporarily pushed into the blades. Without locking the fan, you can damage the fan bearing by over speeding them. Do the same with a desktop PC to protect the fans.

It's unlikely that software will help with the problem as the software already installed would run the fan at maximum speed if the CPU gets that hot.

If all that doesn't help, then you may need to upgrade the CPU cooler. This is usually not possible with a laptop.

Thanx a lot man,yes it is a laptop, and its relatively new, its a Toshiba satellite m645. i found that a good option. even though the fan runs smooth and doesnt seem to make any strange noise. do you recommend me to do it with a vacuum?

and what about speeding the fan a little bit more? would it damage the bearing as you say? i mean i would prefer to damage the fan just a little instead of damage the processor as the time passes by.

and you say its not possible to upgrade the cooler, but is it possible to replace it with a new one?

With a laptop, you are usually stuck with the factory cooler. I would use some 'canned air' if you need to blow it out. It's usually available at large department stores, office supply stores or in electronics stores. A vacuum may blow more dust in there and the vacuum part may not do much as there are usually several air openings.

Do be careful not to over-speed the fan and lock it if possible if blowing out dust.

I doubt you can change the fan speed. The laptop should be running the CPU fan at maximum speed already if the CPU is hot.

But you might try using a spacer or a laptop cooler under the laptop. Some coolers have fans that will run off the USB ports and improve the cooling. If you use the laptop on your lap, then a spacer or cooler might help quite a bit. The air intakes and exhaust are usually on the lower sides and the bottom of a laptop and just elevating it up a bit can help air movement. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laptop_cooler

thanx a lot man i think im going to get one of those. I always thought that if it had something stuck in the fan blowing it would make it get deeper into my motherboard. But maybe with some luck it gets out when i start the fan again. any way. i think i should get to open the cover right now. and i tell you what a see in the meanwhile i'll go to office depot. that thing seems very usefull. thank you very much man.
