  1. Is there a reason why I can only copy the VCDs I make at 8X in Nero using "on the fly",same thing with CDClone ? Even when I don't use "on the fly" it takes ages to read the discs and write the image.
I don't think it's the cdrs I'm using because I can copy those at 24X "on the fly" no problem, as long as it's a data disc and not a VCD.
Is there a setting in Nero I need to set to enable my reader to be able to supply the data quick enough ?
I've tried both my Pioneer 105 and a Samsung 52X, both have the same slowdown when it comes to reading the VCDs I've created.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Cheers
    Chris.

  2. I have noticed the same anomoly with CloneCD, so it is not your
application. I have a Acer DVD ROM and a Teac 524 which both
    read VCDs _very_ slowly.

I asusme it's a problem with Windows ASPI drivers not being
optomized for reading non-filesystem disc formats.

But it's not you or your app.

If you believe it to be an aspi issue, I'd suggest updating your aspi layer. See in the TOOLS section for links.

  4. Spidey, thanks for the suggestion. I always cringe when update my disc's drivers, though.
One bad move, and WHAM reinstall time.

How _safe_ are the ASPI drivers you pointed to, and can they be uninstalled?

  5. After a bit of reading around, I've found that it's the structure of VCDs that cause's the slowdown.
As far as I can tell it happens with all CD-ROMs.
So looks like I'll just have to live with it.

    Hi

I have been reading threads around the place discussing IDE controller speeds, plus having the reader on the same lead as the writer. BUS controller speeds etc etc. Mine are on the same lead, but I don't have exactly the same problems as you. But !

If you read it to image first does it work faster or the same ?. 8X after all is not all that fast these days. I have used cloneCD to do a disk to disk copy on the fly and did notice a drop in speed over writing from an image.

However I have a lot of 16X disks and are copying with clone or NERO at 16X on the fly. ! Nero being faster...

My reader is a cheap 50XMax could do with something better, but it is working... I have also done a disk to disk at 40X using the disks supplied with my writer, Nero did report that buffer underuns was prevented 5 times

I use to have a Scuzzy reader with my old Scuzzy 4X writer, and never seen any problems in disk to disk copies, perhaps we could compare how long it takes to create the image on the hard drive by copying from the reader.
