    Hi There.

I am looking at a video corrector or TBC for some old tapes. I have used professional TBCs in the past, however with little or no help to the video. I have read that TBCs or video correctors specifically designed for consumer video would be more helpful.

I am currently looking at an AVT-8710 TBC. I know these are fairly inexpensive as far as TBC's go so I am a bit questionable on what they can do. I also have been looking at some signvideo video correctors. I know it depends on what video issues i am having but just looking for an all around good device to have. I have some VHS VCR's with built in TBC's like the AG-1970 and JVC 9000 however I convert different media than just VHS.

My setup would be as follows:
    video player / AVT-8710 or other / ADVC-300 / imac

    Thanks
    Mark

Well, I either spend time writing the same thing over and over again.
Or simply link to what's already been written.
That was the point of writing guides to begin with!

    Hyperlinking. What a concept.

  5. I would start with a good VCR and the avt8710 and a dvd recorder, or if you like computer capture, so go forthat.
The avt is a great little piece of kit.It is simple to use and does a good job if you do not want to spend $1000 + and a lot of time.

As for proc amp functionality, look into a Sign Video or Elite Video. The AVT-8710's such features are rather remedial at best. They really are a bonus that doesn't help much.

Having said, as a TBC, I will also vouch that the AVT-8710 is, without a doubt IMO, the highest value per dollar.

PS: I even hear that the overheating problem has been corrected in recent models due to a bad chip they replaced in manufacturing. Can someone confirm if this is true so I can replace mine? (Still worth it.)
I hate VHS. I always did.

Just wondering if this is something that the AVT-8710 can fix...if it is indeed from the original tape.

Also, anyway to figure out if this is the actual tape or if this is a second generation? I know it would be a bit harder to fix if it was second gen. I only have one 8mm player at the moment (Canon ES980 camera). It plays back all the other footage no problem just the first 10 minutes or so of this tape. Not saying that I wouldnt be using a TBC to fix other tapes as I provide a tape conversion service.

    Thanks

    No.

if it is indeed from the original tape.
    Maybe.

It looks more like bad/worn heads on a VCR, either from playback or recording.
