Did my DV Tape short out my Camera?

Can a Mini DV tape build up an electrical charge enough to blowout the electronics of a video camera? It would seem that mine has,twice.
Recorded video on my Canon FVM20 using a Sony Mini DV tape as I've done many times before without problems,but then one day while rewinding a tape for playback my cam just stopped,tape wont pop out or anything, not even the battery will charge nor will it work plugged in. At first I didn't think anything of it,maybe it's just craped out on it own,Until today,when I borrowed a cam from a friend,a Victor GR-DV2000 and began checking tapes to transfer to my hard drive for editing. I have two kinds of Mini DV tapes Victor and Sony everything was fine until I put in one Sony tape checked it out, video of a school I worked at and video of my son,so I began rewinding it,then it stopped dead excactly as with my cam. WTF!? HELP!

Can a mini-DV tape blow the electronics on your camera - no. Could a bad tape jam up a camera's drive mechanism and burn it out ? Maybe, although the camera should stop itslef before things get that drastic. More likely something to do with your local environment. Were both cameras plugged into the same wall socket or power board, by chance ?

No they were not.The Canon happened a few months ago in the living room and was not plugged in, it was on battery power, the Victor happened today in my bed room and was plugged in. The only similar thing is they both have Sony Mini DVs in them when it happened.
