    Hi -

I have been planing on transfering a home VHS/Hi8/MiniDV collection of tapes. I am curious about the cost of having a pro with pro equipment do it for me. Is anyone aware of a top-notch service in the US that will do this for me?

I know there are tons of these places but who would you all recommend? I want to compare the cost of doing it myself vs the cost of having it done.

PS - I would love to find one in Manhatten.

    Thanks in advance!

I do this in PM only.
And I'll need to know a total budget + number of tapes, to give good suggestion.

Just remember that you get what you pay for.

I maintain a short list of current good services.

    Probably 30 tapes. A combo of VHS/Hi8/MiniDV.

I am looking for archival quality work from someone using pro equipment.

I know the cost will be higher than an automated transfer mill and I am willing to pay it.

I am not looking for editing; just beautifully done captures to a hard drive so I can edit on my Mac.

I am wondering if by the time I get all the equpment and put in the time needed it would be better to simply let a pro have at it!

    Thanks for you time!

For 30 tapes, outsource would probably be cheaper, faster and easier.

I'll write some suggestions to you in private tomorrow.
(SB Sunday, after all, game to go watch.)
