It takes me 17 hours to convert 1/2 of a full movie with tmpgenc and I'm not the only one that wants on the computer, my brother likes to play video games which often crashes the computer, if there's some kind of option where I can pick off where I left off later plz let me know. and if there isnt a option then let me know why there isnt such a great option.[/b]

Try this: When you click STOP, it asks you if you really want to stop. I assume that when this happens, tmpgenc is suspened. When the little angel has finished, simply click no to resume. I havent tried it but it might work.

Check out the source range under the advance tab. Use the slider to set start and stop points and then use batch encoding. Ideally, you would want to break the movie up into as many pieces as you expect to burn cd's. If you rip enough movies, you will get a feel for how many minutes you can get on your cd based on the template you are using and the type of movie. Always give yourself a little head-room to be safe. For example, I have three templates I have written for TMPGEnc :
1. FOR INTERLACED NTSC - using Automatic CQ-VBR, max 2520, min 320, Q=100, high quality slow motion search precision, inverse telecine. This yields app. 40 minutes on an 80min cd-r.
2. FOR PROGRESSIVE NTSC (film) - using Automatic CQ-VBR, max 2520, min 320, Q=100, high quality (slow) motion search precision. This yields app. 43 minutes on an 80min cd-r. I call this my high quality template.
3. FOR PROGRESSIVE NTSC (film) - using Automatic CQ-VBR, max 1900, min 320, Q=100, motion search estimate (fast) motion search precision. This yields app. 55 minutes on an 80min cd-r. I call this my low quality template.
I realize that everybody that creates templates thinks theirs are the best. I'm of the opinion that whatever works for you is the best for you. I am using ver 2.53 Plus and have a 1.7GHz processor. I want quality first, reduced time to encode second and minimum number of cd-r's third. The results that I get with my high quality template are almost (my opinion, my friends opinion, my family's opinion) DVD quality. Only in extreme high action scenes with camera panning at the same time the action is moving can you tell the difference between my high and low quality templates. I have also tried 2 pass VBR with no apparent improvement over my high quality template (again my opinion, although many people claim a hugh quality improvement with 2 pass, I can't detect the difference. Time to encode using my low quality template is app. 1.5 X the length of the selection. With the high quality template it is app. 2 X the length of the selection.
Therefore you could encode a 40 to 55 minute portion of your movie and burn it all within app. 2 hours and give the computer over to your brother and at a later session encode and burn the remaining portions. REMEMBER that the encode time is directly proportional to your processor speed. -
You need not re-encode the entire movie if the computer or program crashes. Simply find out where the movie was when the program crashed and write out a new mpeg from there (or a few frames before) - using the Source Range settings. Then use the MPEG Tools to combine the mpegs. I recommend joining the MPEGs at a scene change so you don't notice the splice.
