I am trying to add a wireless printer to my network and every time I enable wireless on my printer, it screws up my wireless connection on my desktop and laptop (losses internet connection). I don't want to have to connect it with a usb cable, what could it be? I have a HP C4500Series 2 printer, Belkin network adapter, Belkin Router and a Actiontec GT701 modem. My network is a secured network in which I have the password/key to.

My first suspicion is your printer is trying to use a address you already have in use.

Does your router detect the printer? It should be listed, even it doesn't fully connect.

My HP printer insisted on using a different address setup than my system supported ( I use 10.0.0.X) and I had to go into the printer and give it a fixed address, then input that same address to my router and then it worked fine. I would definitely check to see what default address the printer uses and see if there's a conflict. I'd also check your subnet settings, IE 255.255.255.0 or similar.

If your router is issuing LAN addresses via DHCP, you might consider fixed addresses for all your devices. A bit of a PITA to set up, but it seems more stable to me.

Many routers allow you to allocated a range of addresses for dynamic allocation, and reserve a range for fixed IPs. I have my desktop, PS3 and WDTV all on fixed IPs because I have routers and QoS set up for streaming video. Laptops go in the DHCP area and get IP addresses on the fly.

    According to the manual:
    http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01516322.pdf
    To connect the product
    1. Insert the product Software CD in the computer CD-ROM drive.
    2. Follow the instructions on the screen.
When you are prompted, connect the product to the computer using the USB setup
cable included in the box. The product will attempt to connect to the network. If the
connection fails, follow the prompts to correct the problem, and then try again.
    3. When the setup is finished, you will be prompted to disconnect the USB cable and
test the wireless network connection. Once the product connects successfully to the
network, install the software on each computer that will use the product over the
    network.
    Did you do that?

You can make a direct (ad-hoc) connection between a laptop and the printer, if you are doing that it may mess up connection via router.

Thanks again, guys. I got it. I just uninstalled the printer software from the previous install (USB) and re-installed wireless. I thought it would be recognized automatically.
