    Hello,

I bought a Sony Laptop from Fry's and it has a couple of users names on the C drive that are named Fry's and public... They are locked and I can't change the name. How do I unlock these or just change the name? I created a user name for me but now it has three users Me, Frys and public. If I delete any files or folders from the Fry's or public users it also deletes what I have in mine. Because all of the info is the same with all users names. Why is it duplicate I don't know. I don't see how or where to put password if it has one. The laptop has W7 home OS.

You cannot remove public as it's a system default

You should be able to remove the fry's account by following whats in this link ... and answer yes to delete the files associated with the account ... it will then no longer appear with other accounts in windows explorer.

Your new account has no file links to fry's so none of your files will be affected ... if fry's has any shared files listed in public they will be removed.

I'd create the restore set for the machine - go to Sony's website, tech support to learn how to do this - if there wasn't a set of restore discs included.

I'd restore to default: You don't know who's been inside the machine, or what may be lost (or added).

are you sure Bjs? ..there is a "guest" profile that is default, and there are "public" FOLDERS that are default, but if there's a PROFILE that says "public" i think that should be removed also...

but either way, i totally agree with classfour... you should do a complete restore to factory defaults.
