So do you splurge on tech gifts for yourself this time of year? Do you go higher than you might otherwise and step up to a deluxe version of something?
Do you buy more of everything?
Do you just save up for one large item and compensate with holiday cash gifts and gift cards?
Do you have anything you still want or do you already have everything you could need?
I'm basically set for tech gear this year. The only thing I want is the keyboard for Rockband 3. I will be getting it one way or another. I'll probably be buying it the day after Christmas. Other than that I really have all that I want now.
Although I would be interested in eventually getting a bluray burner and skipping avchd altogether. But for now avchd is fine for my ps3.

Nope. I hardly buy anything for myself. A few vinyl albums here and there, but that's about it. I'm not a big spender.

I generally don't buy anything for myself at Christmas. The only tech item I want this year is a Kindle, so I asked my wife for one and it's here, but she won't let me have it until Christmas. It's wrapped and under the tree.

No. This should be a poll.
If I want something I just buy it. I don't wait until December.Last edited by zzyzzx; 23rd Dec 2010 at 21:16.

well, this year i sure did. I picked up 2 netbooks, one w/ windows 7 se and the other w/ xp home, and also picked up an iPod Touch and a wireless router, two usb cooling fans for both netbooks, they really work, these gizmos get really hot on the bottom, the cooling fans really cool it off just barely warm, and also picked up a bunch of other tech-toys. Hay, i just learned how to shut off the mouse pad on these netbooks, they are murder when typing-i use an external usb mouse a tini-tiny one works great for both, now i type (since today) nearly error-free and w/out the mouse jumping all over the place an absolute murder for these tini netbook keyboards. on my netbook, press the Fn+F4 key on/off for mouse pad activity. I have a 4 port usb, has cooling fan, mouse, usb-2-serial, and flash drive.
this year i got a lot of stuff, but i guess i'm sort of making up for it since i haden't really gotten much the last 5 or so years.
oh, and did i say i'm getting high speed internet !! yes, this time, i am!!

Seriously ?
Ordered one for Mrs Guns1inger, but did so too late. I have the case and the power supply to wrap, but the actual device wont be here for another couple of weeks. Loving the parity with USD$ though.Read my blog here.

I didn't splurge much. I bought myself a 500 GB HDD and 2 GB of RAM. There are a few more things I'd like, and if I find a little cash in my stocking I'll get some of them too.

Yeah, seriously!!!!!!
LOL!!
I have heard so much about this stupid "Kinect" for the 360 i thought maybe he meant that but mistyped....
I am not a big fan of laptops, ipads or "kindles" i guess....

How can you be such a fixture on a cutting edge digital age website like videohelp.com and be so old fashioned????
Nothing wrong with it just curious.
By the way I do still read "physical" books too.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
A lot of things are cheaper in May-June and again in October.
Dec-Jan is a pretty crappy time of year to buy computers or electronics.
But few pick up on this, as they don't track pricing year round.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

fyi I did get the rockband 3 keyboard. I used a gift card towards it. It is fun.
It has a moderate mode where you just use one hand. But it also has a "pro mode" for using it like a real keyboard. It's tougher than I thought.
I am even considering getting a midi cable for it and getting some teacher software. Its a 25 key midi keyboard that will work as a regular midi keyboard as well as a rockband controller.
I can play some songs on keyboard pro medium level. That uses some simple chords where as the easy pro mode doesn't do chords. Trying to hit the black keys is tougher than I thought it would be.
Two songs I can't wait for in keyboard mode are JUMP by Van Halen and It Must Have Been Love by Roxette. Hopefully they'll do those two(I do have the Billy Joel an Bee Jees set that were released and those are a lot of fun on the keyboard).

New (first, really) receiver. Researched for quite awhile and decided on a Onkyo TR-NX708. Found some really good deals last month. Only have the mains and the center channel hooked up for 3.0 right now. Still TONS better the built in TV speakers. Man what a difference. Sub will be next within a few weeks. Still deciding how to least destructively put up the surround speakers.
Also, treated myself to the Sharp 60" LE88UN for my birthday this past summer. Been a good year!Have a good one,
neomaine
