Ok I have a show I dubbed off my cable hd pvr with my hauppauge hd pvr. The original show is in 5.1 audio. I captured to h264 inside a m2ts file. The show was broadcasted in 5.1 but it seems like most programs are only reading 2 channel audio (avs to dvd reports 2 channel). I think what happened is the channel I started my dub on was broadcasting in stereo but when I played my recorded program it flipped to 5.1. I don't think avstodvd can recognize that switch inside the file.
What I did was I used tmpengc plus to convert the avs file of the video clip into a 3000kpbs mpg2 clip so I can make a dvd out of it. The video looks good but the audio is only stereo.
I tried tsmuxer but it only recognizes the video file. It does not show the audio file. That is my first try to use tsmuxer but it won't let me demux it.
-----------------------------
What program can I use to demux ac3 audio from a m2ts file other than tsmuxer?
----------------------------
I've done some searching here and I found suggestions for eac3to to extract it. But it seems like it simply uses tsmuxer to do that work so I'm back to square one.
I'm not sure what else to use.
In the end I can live with stereo as long as its on just a few of my caps. I'm hoping this is the exception rather than the rule. I have a few movies I dubbed that I want to make dvds of and hopefully I don't have the same problem.
In the end I could simply make some avchd's out of these and hope my ps3 can read the 5.1 when the show starts.
My reason for converting to dvd is space. I do have a wdtv media player but I don't want to fill up a harddrive with these "throw away" shows. I want to keep them but I don't need them in their full glory - downconverting is ok. And I don't want to waste dl's on these because even though they are 1 hour shows I capped at 6.5mb and they are about 3gb each. I want to try to get 3 on a single layer. 3000kpbs seems ok though a little pixelated on some of the fast motion camera stuff they do occasionally.
--------------------
I've tried avidemux and it crashed after indexing it as an mpeg type file. I've just tried projectx (the newer lite version) and it was able to demux it but I did not seem to get an audio file just a video file.
So what options do I have? Or should I resign myself to stereo for this particular episode I dubbed?
Edit - I am using the arcsoft software that came with the hauppauge hd pvr to make a dvd. I remember reading it will keep the audio intact if you don't edit the video in the dvd creation software (otherwise it converts to stereo upon edits). Hopefully that will retain the original 5.1 inside the captured file. If it does than I can merely compile it into a new dvd and transcode it to fit a single layer with as many as 3 episodes should I so choose.

Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
So tsremux is not the same as tsmuxer? I will give it a try.
FYI I just finished the dvd creation with arcsoft and the import into tda 2.0 says the dvd is a stereo dvd unfortunately.
I will try tsremux.
My next step after that is to burn the raw m2ts file to dvdr and check it out with my ps3 (the ps3 does read raw m2ts fyi). What I want to know is if the show copied in 5.1 at all, if it didn't than I can't do anything about it but I will try tsmuxer first.
Edit - can I save them as .ac3? I did it as a first test but there wasn't a file type save option that I could tell. Also it was reallly small - 170mb or so when the original file was 3gb - is that accurate?
edit 2 - I did it again and saved it as an ac3. I opened it with gspot and it does say its ac3 with 6 channel audio.
I'm gonna try to import it into tda 2.0 to make a new dvd from my video I've already converted. Hopefully this will work.
Thanks megahurts.
Edit 3 - Ok I used avstodvd to mux the m2ts file and the extracted ac3 file to a dvd folder. It still came out stereo according to gspot.
I think I'm just gonna throw in the towel on this one and accept it in stereo only. THats ok at least it is in synch. Thats the most important part.
Hopefully the movies I dubbed are all in 5.1 like they are supposed to be.
Thanks for the program suggestion as that actually did work with the file.Last edited by yoda313; 30th Dec 2010 at 22:27.

Edit - I am wondering if gspot read the extracted ac3 incorrectly? The dvd that came out was in stereo but it was in synch. So maybe it really was a stereo file to begin with? I have yet to burn the original m2ts file to disc to test it on the ps3. I guess that is the only way to be sure that the original was capped in stereo not 5.1
Thanks.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
The added AC3 stream should very probably be stereo (2.0) and not 5.1. See MediaInfo reading by AVStoDVD:

@_mrc_ - thanks for taking a look.
Yes it probably is. I will try to burn the original m2ts and check it on the ps3 this weekend (sometime in between watching football).
The odd thing about that time difference is that the output was in synch. That was bizarre.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw?
