    Hi!

I have a poorly made dvd to edit. One clip from a vob should be edited, but I would like to do it without re-encoding, if that is possible. The idea is to cut out the clip, edit it in Vegas, render it to mpg, rename it to vob, and later merge with the original vob, renaming the parts in proper vob sequence to be recognized in programs such as VobMerge.

Could that be possible? Theoretically it should be. If there's a software to simply separate one part of the file and after editing, putting it into a proper container to merge with the rest of it.
Since basically, if I understand correctly, video files are a bunch of pictures put into different containers.

I don't want to render the whole video again, since it's already not the best quality.

Thanks for any ideas and help.

Of course it can be done without re-encoding....you're just not gonna do it at the VOB level.
    VOB2MPEG (no re-encoding)
MPEG-VCR (or something similar) to cut out the offending footage(no re-encoding).
TDA (or something similar) to re-author back to DVD format/file structure.
    DONE

You'll get nowhere fast being fixated on individual VOB files.

    Thanks for the help.
I checked the programs out, mpeg-vcr didn't work so I tried mpeg2cut2 and got the required clip cut out and saved separately. It's a nice tool, reads vob files, no renaming required and also does muxing, but the problem comes after editing the clip. I want to mux it back together with the original vob, but it's not going smoothly. After muxing, the joint is rough and second part of the clip is without sound.

Has anyone more experience with it, how should I render the edited clip or what can be done better so that it would work?

    Thank you.

I told you....you can't just pick out one VOB, edit it, then expect to stick it back with the others. It does not work that way.

  5. You can do this using VobBlanker, but only at the cell (chapter) level. That is, you can't extract and replace any old part of the movie, but a cell. Open the DVD in VobBlanker, highlight the video in question so it appears in the lower window. Highlight it in the lower window and hit "Cells" to the right. In the new Cells window find and extract the cell in question. Edit it however you like and when the time comes to put it back in, highlight it like before but this time hit the "Replace" button. Find your newly edited VOB and replace it, hit "Apply", go back to the main screen, give it an Output Folder, and "Process".
