  1. (Using TMPG) I have tried a few methods of deinterlacing and can not quite find the exact type to use. I am trying to get rid of the 'choppiness' in my SVCD's. I am quite sure it can be done because everytime I download a music video, I see the quality I am seeking! How is that 'fluid-like motion achieved. I've tried inverse telecine with emphasis on motion priority but I still can't seem to duplicate the quality I have seen several times. If the gifted one is out there, I'd appreciate your input! Thanks in advance!!

  2. is your source ntsc or pal? telecined film or pure 50/60hz video? in any case you should not be deinterlacing except to clean up misjudged frames after ivtc

  3. Be sure to get the proper field first: A/top vs. B/bottom. Check it each way to see which looks right. If your field order is wrong, inverse telecine will be botched, and you'll still have bad motion.

  4. STANWEBBER: Thank you for the direction and the link!

C53248: Thank you. Is there a definite way to determine which field to process first; top or bottom? ,,, and what's does each do?

  5. I don't know if there is a way to determine which field goes first other than trial-and-error. And I'm not sure which way is supposed to be normal. Within TMPGEnc's IVTC filter you can have it automatically work on a range (or the whole thing) and then play through the video by holding down the rightward button in the bottom right of the window to see if things look right. If you get comb-like distortion of vertical edges, then something's not right.

Each frame is made up of the two fields, each made up of every other horizontal line in the frame. They are alternately displayed at 60 fields per second for 30 frames per second video on a TV. I think that in some cases a video file might start with what should be the second field of a frame. In that case, you wouldn't want to pair that up with what should be the first field of the next frame and so on with all of the fields mis-matched. All of your frames would be somewhat botched and no proper IVTC would be possible.
