  1. I am in the UK, and I only have PAL VHS Players and a stand-alone DVD Recorder (can record PAL or NTSC signal).
I am able to watch NTSC tapes on my tv, but I would like to record them to DVDR.
This doesn't seem to work if I use the VHS machine and DVD Recorder back to back, as the signal coming from the VHS machine is not true NTSC.
If I buy a capture card, would it be possible to record on my hard drive in DVD NTSC format ?
    EASYCAP is cheap to buy.
    Would this work ?
    TIA !

  2. what make / model is your dvd recorder?

the Philips 3570H can record the signal that your PAL vcr's (Known as PAL60) throw out when playing a ntsc tape.

You might come across the amcrovision problem though, are they bought vhs tapes are home recorded ?

Yes the easycap is cheap and is a bugger to get working properly

  4. Thanks for replies.
My DVD Recorder is a Panasonic.
    I have shop-bought NTSC videotapes.
They are rare films, which I cannot buy anywhere, so I want to transfer them to dvd.
If I used the Philips machine, would it create a genuine NTSC dvd ?

  5. Also....I am wondering if the Philips 3570H has the same specification as those bought in Canada.

  6. I was referring to the UK Philips machine, the USA /Canada one is the 3575/76

Yes it would create a NTSC DVD, or, as the panasonic does record true NTSC, it would be cheaper getting a NTSC vcr, but you would need a multi voltage one as getting/using a voltage converter is a pain, those tapes of yours might need a TBC to get rid of copy protection as well.

you would need to confirm that it plays standard vhs as well and what voltage, but boy thats cheap

the following might be the best solution !! holy moly

and just to show you the fun and games with the easycap

depending on how many tapes, it might be better if a service did it for you

seems best option in the UK, unless you want to risk one of the 'video stabilisers" that are offered on ebay / on line.
