  1. I have a video x-ray machine that I want to put onto my mac. Currently we capture video on a VCR. I know people that have run theirs into a PC for years. But I have all macs, and that's what I need to do. The camera end of the machine uses composite BNC. I have a DAC 100, but can't figure out how to configure it, or my mac so that imovie sees it. If anyone can help me it would be appreciated.

The Datavideo DAC-100 should work. Test it first with a known good video input first like a cable box or camcorder.

The DAC-100 converts analog to DV over Firewire. It was an early box and maybe not the most stable. The king of this class was the Canopus ADVC 100 or 110.

iMovie should see the DAC-100 when an analog input is connected and active. If you can record it, try again with your X-Ray cam.

PS BTW: Don't take this wrong but dentists/md are the worst for upgrading hardware. Describe your "Mac". Are we talking a Mac Classic?

When I was assisting my mom with pre-op doctor visits, it was like a tour of computer history.

  4. That's just it. I tested my hookup with an old analog camcorder. It worked fine. I push import and imovie imports the clip. But if I hook up the security camera that we use for identification, or the x-ray machine, I get no image. imovie sees the DAC 100, but gets nothing from it, so imovie gets nothing. If I push import nothing happens. Why doesn't it see the security camera or the video from the x-ray machine?

    !!! UPDATE !!!
Got to do some further reading and found this on DAC's faq:

'Q: Can the DAC-100 convert Black & White video from a CCTV camera?

A: The DAC-100 is unable to convert a Black & White video signal because it needs "color burst in the video stream." If you need to convert video from a Black & White camera, please take a look at our DAC-10 converter which can convert a black and white signal'

But a DAC-10 is like $9,000? Am I seeing that right? Anything else that can convert black and white?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Technically what you need is a "proc amp" that will take monochrome in and replace sync with color burst added. Some TBC's may do this. Call a pro video supply store, describe your problem and make sure you have return rights.
