Does anyone know if a TIVO HD model (652160) can be used as a manual DVR (or VCR) without a TIVO subscription ? It has dual tuners and does OTA recording..... I see these things all the time on EBay for cheap prices, just wondering......

Unfortunately a tivo is just pretty much a paper weight without the subscription. Manual recording will not work. You will get the live 30 minute buffer and pause, rewind, and fast forward but that's it.
I've got a tivo HD and love it. The 12.95 monthly fee is worth it to me for all of the features and it's conveniences. Update the hard drive to a larger size using winmfs and you've got one hell of a dvr.
I use mine strictly for OTA as I do not have cable.Donadagohvi (Cherokee for "Until we meet again")
