I acquired an .avi of a movie which when I doubleclick it opens in my Windows Media Player 11. It plays automatically, OK for awhile. After a few minutes the video makes a brief rapid motion movement which puts it out of sync with the audio. Clicking on the moving timeline (navigation) bar resets it, then it continues playing OK for a few more minutes, then the same thing happens again. What's the cause? Is there an easy cure?

[The same thing happens using PowerDVD 5 to play the .avi movie, so it's apparently not a fault of the particular playback software.]

Try also play with VLC Media Player, it has builtin decoders while both wmp and powerdvd uses probably same decoders.

And I guess you have at least tried some avi divx/xvid fixers? Like divfixpp.

Thanks for the suggestions, but neither work...

divfix++ finds 1 error and apparently fixes it (?) but that doesn't fix the audio sync problem with WMP or PowerDVD.

I installed VLC media player 1.1.4, but it has a video problem when playing the .avi file, lots of vertical lines, etc.

    So...?
