Hello there,
Next week, I'm visiting my parents to hook up their new Sony AT205 DVD recorder. I've been trying to do a bit of research to get a little heads up on the beast.
1) Now it says that it's "Divx" compatible. What does that mean precisely?
For instance, which of the following formats can it read (or not)? : MKV, AVI, VOB, MPG.
2) What's the MO if I want to transfer such files onto the AT205 DVD. Is an external USB HD acceptable? Or must it be a USB flash device?
3) Am i right in assuming these files can be directly played back from the actual AT205 hard drive (so as to avoid having to burn them on dvd's)?
Any help will be much appreciated, cheers.

I can't speak specifically about that DVD recorder, but Divx compatible usually means Divx encoded video in an AVI container (and usually MP3 or AC3 audio) and only includes standard definition frame sizes (720x576 or less). Many will also play standard definition MPG or VOB files but that has nothing to do with the Divx compatibility. Most will not play MKV files, even if they contain Divx encoded video.

Divx compatible - means 1 bframe =packed & fourrCC divx
its all Greek right?
Listen newgit, as long as your videos have XVID as a fourCC you shouldn't have any issufes.
If you do than its an old unit that doesn't like mpeg quant (avi.net's HQ mode)...spec has H263 sorry
The original HT certify required 1 bframe = packed
Use Nics FFourcc changer ( with XVID distro).

Hey thanks for the responses (though I'm not sure I understand the finer points)
Anyway, I installed the AVI.net pack and tried to convert a VOB file to AVI but it says "m2AudioAC3Source : unable to open file..." => no idea what that means.
Also, assuming I get past the first problem, is there a way for avi.net to gather the separate VOB files (of a film) under a single AVI file?
