    i installed AC3File and AC3Filter but Sony Vegas Pro 9.0e still refuses to open it.

    if the ac-3 file is muxed with a mpeg-2 file it will open and use them, but you are correct it will not use them as a source by themselves. convert it to wav first before importing.
