Man I'm so proud of my son. The other day I was watching my collection of Doctor Who (David Tennant) and my 8 year old son came in the room and started watching with me. After a few episodes he asked me if he could take some disks and watch them in his room. He has been watching them for the last few days.
What made me proud was a couple of days ago when we were at our local bookstore and he asked if there were any Doctor Who books. This coming from a kid that mainly wants to read comic books (not that there is anything wrong with comics. I enjoy them myself). I helped him look until we found one. He wanted it so bad that he paid for it with his own money. He has been reading it every night since.
I'm happy that he is wanting to read books more. I see so many kids that could care less about books so this really makes me proud that he is wanting to read rather than just watch a show to entertain him.

As a novelist, I love to hear about kids that discover the joy of reading. Thanks for sharing.

That is good.
However being that this is a video website I thought you were gonna mention how you taught him how to rip the dvds and make copies for himselfDonatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
Guess that's why this part of the forum is named "Off Topic". Hehe

My two (G 13, B 11) have been marathoning through the recent seasons ( from Chris Eccelston onwards) while they have been on School holidays. They have since picked up a half dozen of the books form the local library and are ploughing through them as well (which is good, because even I need to take a break from Doctor Who from time to time). Reading is one those things that kids will happily do if it is modelled by the parents. If the parents don't read, the kids usually wont either. Things like Harry Potter help, but even then many will choose the video over the book if they haven't been given the appreciation for reading.
Proud of your son - great. But be proud of yourself as well - you are obviously doing something right.Read my blog here.

I think my favorite one of the DW new series books was "Peacemaker" so far. (Old West setting.)
I'd suggest that one to him.

Careful there proud old dad or your 8 y.o. could be end up like my 10 y.o.
They started watching DW starting with Chris Eccelston and ran out of current episodes. Now they are going back and watching old epsisodes (which I used to watch years ago) from Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. And they are watching the same disk over and over again.........
You know, it've never occur to me to get DW books for them to read (They've been reading semi-fantasy books like The magic Tree house and Secrets of Droon) Thanks for the idea. -
There are audio books, too. David Tennant reads several of them.
Some are only available in audio format.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)
