Im gonna start streaming using screen capture but i need a capture card. I hear a lot about Hauppauge, which one should i get? The highest quality i would like to stream at is 480p, definitely not more than that. maybe just 360p. any recommendations? Also does my video card have a matter in the kind of capture card i can get?

If you are screen capturing, you don't need a capture card, just a program like Camstudio or FRAPS. If you are capturing from an external source, then one of the Hauppauge cards may be a good choice. They use hardware compression, usually with the MPEG codec, so a lighter load on the CPU than software capture.
A display video card doesn't have much of anything to do with external source capture, but may have a bearing if you are capturing the screen of your monitor.
What are you planning to stream the video to? Internet or LAN? -

What is a screen capture card ??
A capture card is used to capture "External" video sources, not what is going on in your pc or what you see on the monitor screen. -

Not true. Streaming video is already on your PC. You don't need a capture card for that. Capture cards are for external video sources, such as a VHS deck or a live TV broadcast from a tuner.
If you want to capture external video sources, then the Hauppauge cards are one option. They hardware cap in MPEG format, which helps if your final format is going to be MPEG for DVD.Last edited by redwudz; 18th Jun 2010 at 23:12.
