    Okay, let me explain this.

I am a great trailer fan, and at least twice a week I download a new movie trailer from Apple, always 1080p.
Now, I've been trying to set myself up with a "perfect" encoding which suits my needs, as I have no need for 1080p. I know I can actually just download the 480p version, but I wish to try and make these myself.

So H264 was the obvious solution to this, and I've been using it for a while, but I wanted to give DivX one last shot, as I didn't use that for months (years!), but what the hell? I can't use DivX in XviD4PSP? WHY? I have the latest version of the DivX codec installed on my system, do I need anything else in order for XviD4PSP to recognize the codec (ffdshow or something?), or is it just a simple fact that it doesn't support it at all? Or am I just blind and can't actually see it (I don't remember which are all of the formats included, like H261 and stuff )

I'm not an expert in encoding, but I have to say that its not just about Apple trailers, I have tons of DVDs that are almost dead, I wish to make a backup of as many as I can, the simple question is: is "the good old DivX" a better solution than H264? Once again, I'm not looking for HQ rips of either, just a simple 1h30m=700MB rips.

    Use mpeg-4 xvid.

Xvid4psp doesn't use external video codecs so you can't install anything.

    Bah, too bad...

The strange thing is that I have been searching for any other solution which lets me encode H264 and VC1 to DivX, and srsly, can't find a bloody thing!
