  1. Hi all, I'm currently trying to backup my BD collection into digital files for ease of use and playability. Ideally I would love to keep them in .mkv format but the only hardware in my home that currently plays that is my PC. So I would like to create files that will be compatible for streaming to my Xbox360, which can read the following:

    http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/gamesandmedia/movies/videofaq/viewvideoplaybackfaq.aspx

I don't know if there's a way to go from BD to digital media with zero quality loss, but I'd like to take the method that is as close to zero as it can be. I'm not too keen on the different codecs and which provide the best video and audio and are also compatible with what my Xbox360 can read, so I'm hoping you can help me out there. Software recommendations for achieving said purposes would be great as well. Thanks!

Most are probably reconverting to wmv with hdconverttox or mp4 with for example ripbot264. But without quality loss is hard.

  3. How much quality loss is seen in reconverting with both of the software you just mentioned?

Looking at those limited Bitrates i'd be tempted to use the same bitrate at 720 rather than 1080 in order to get a better picture quality. The H264 option doesn't look too bad 4.1 at 10mbps, or the WMV as mentioned before at 15mbps. You'd Have to experiment and see what you liked the best to be honest.

I'd avoid the 5mbps AVI file option though!

  5. Well I've found a way to make the Xbox play .mkv files, so no need to convert to .avi.

How do I go about turning my BDrip into .mkv without quality loss? Best software recommendation? How can I get subtitles from my BDrip as well?

MakeMKV will rip BD Titles directly to MKV without quality loss, also allow you to select which audio and subtitle tracks you wish to keep. Remember the size of these files are very large averaging around 25gb with some being larger.

  7. Awesome program! Ripped Kill Bill Volume 1 in about 35 minutes. The only issue is the subtitle track is .pgs which is not recognizable by VLC. Is there a way to convert .pgs to .srt, extract the video and audio stream from the .mkv that MakeMKV created, and then mux the video, audio, and .srt into a separate .mkv without losing any quality? I love how MakeMKV kept the audio and video the same as the source disk and I'm looking for something similar when muxing.
