Is Yahoo using more local news in its main news window?

Ok on the yahoo.com main page it has the area in the center dedicated to the latest news items. For the longest time it has been mainly national news. In the lower area where they have just the links to the news and no pictures there is a seperate part for local news (after you have signed in once at least so they know where you are of course).

But lately it seems like there is a lot more local news in the main news body. I live in Michigan and there has been a surprising amount of local news in the main news box. Is that a push to make it more local than national?

I am wondering about this because some of the news to me would not be on another computer in another state.

Anyone else who uses yahoo a lot notice the same thing? Or has it always been like this and I'm just paying more attention to it?

Edit - ok I signed out of yahoo mail and the local stuff did disappear entirely.

However I still think they are putting more and more local stuff in the main news window while you are signed in. This just surprised me thats all. I'm not really complaining.......

It might just be geotargeted.

They get your IP and send you local news mostly. It has been like this for a few months now since they started testing the "new" homepage.

Yep, the first thing i thought of was if you are signed in they usually know where you are from when you made an e-mail account and used your city and zip code.

Like when i am signed in i have the weather set to default to be in my area by my zip code.

But i still get a lot of nation/world wide news showing up in the scroll windows below the main news article.
