following the suggestion of another the suggestion of another forum member, I've tried avstodvd, to convert downloaded files to DVD, the using imgburn to actually burn the disc. This process worked fine until I had to reformat my computer, Now that I've reinstalled avstodvd, the conversion programs work fine (once I gave them permission to do their jobs.) But I'm having a problem with imgburn. If I try to use it independently (dragging the converted files to it,) I can't seem to find the right setting to have it write the video/audio "ts" files to disc as a dvd, instead of data. And, if I set the output at the main menu at avstodvd to burn result to dvd, I get an error messages that "windows can't access the device..., you may not have authorization to do so." So I use another program to burn the result as a dvd.
I'm reasonably certain that it's me, I must not be doing something right along the the "chain", but I don't see where. I would appreciate guidance to help me find my mistake(s).

are you using imgburn in build mode to make video dvds? but even the folders burned in data mode should make a usable dvd.

TS files are NOT valid for DVD format video, so this is why ImgBurn burns them as data files. ImgBurn ONLY burns. Well, it does convert various audio formats to CD audio if you want, but it does not do video conversion of any kind. So you are basically asking it to do something it is not capable of doing. Any conversion of TS to DVD format must be done by another program prior to burning.

kinda thought the ts he was referring to was the ts folders, isn't that what avstodvd that he used creates?

now at times it will actually write a video, but somehow avstodvd is not writing audio files. At least when I try the burned dvd there is no sound, and, when I opened the ts folder from one project, there were no audio files in the folder. Maybe I should uninstall everything and start over, because I just don't get it. Before I had to reformat my computer I had no problems with the family of programs, now there giving me nothing but headaches.

the video_ts folder holds all the files for a dvd. the audio_ts folder should be empty as it's not used. audio and video are in the vob files of the video_ts.

possibly you have bad source files that avstodvd can't use.

today I have tried both an .avi, and, an .mp4 file. The result from both after burning the resulting DVD fold to DVD is that there is video, but not, audio. imgburn would allow me to burn the .mp4's converted DVD folder to disc, but, it would allow me to do that with the DVD from the .avi file, wanted to burn it as an .iso.

  8. If you're getting VOBs, open one in GSpot and/or MediaInfo to confirm there's no audio. If there isn't any, post info about the source file(s). If there is audio, then maybe you don't have the filter (AC3Filter?) in place to play it. Have you already tried on a standalone DVD player? And if there's an Avs2DVD log, post it so the developer (who will surely see it if you rename the thread title to also mention Avs2DVD) can provide some more authoritative help. I don't really see how this is an ImgBurn problem unless the VOBs play with audio before burning but not after being burned to disc.

Just in case they're needed, here's a link to the ImgBurn guides:

Opened one of the VOB files with GSpot, which read that I had all the codecs I needed to play back a DVD created from the file on my computer. Created a DVD from the file that AVStoDVD created, with imgburn, and, imgburn verified the compliation. Played the disc on my TV/DVD. Another coaster. Video but no audio. Attaching the log file from avstodvd

Imgburn will burn the following: DVDfolder - do not select the VIDEO_TS folder, select the DVD root folder.

On boot, imgburn should display a screen, select "write files/folders to disc",

    select "browse for a folder"

select the drive, then the root directory of the DVD files, not the video_ts folder.

If your dvd is authored correctly, the result should be a playable DVD.

If not, please read the guides on how to author.

#1 - You have NO CLUE what you are doing and need to do some serious reading.
#2 - What you are doing and asking for help with is ILLEGAL. Wait until the movie
"How To Train Your Dragon" is released to DVD and stop downloading pirated material.
