  1. Hi
I have purchased a cheap media recorder that records in "mpeg2 MP@H-14". It seems that this format takes up more room on a DVD-5 than "mpeg2 MP@ML". Does anyone know of a convertor that will shrink the size of MP@H-14 to MP@ML? I can only get 1.5 hours on a disk using SP mode on the recorder.
Am I on the right track suspecting this format inconsistency?

    Thanks

    MP@H-14 is an HD spec.
MP@ML is required for DVD-Video. You're making some sort of HD data disc.

It must be re-encoded. You can't "shrink" this.

High def frame sizes are not legal for DVD.

It's the bitrate that determines how much video will fit on a DVD, not the profile level:

file size = bitrate * running time

  5. If the video is standard definition (720x480 NTSC, 720x576 PAL) you might be able to use AviDemux to requantize it to reduce the size. Or you can reencode it with a lower bitrate and a DVD compatible profile. Could you provide a small sample of the video?
