I have 19 files on a disk which is scratched a lot. I can get on the disk and play the files but after a minute or so QuickTime freezes and i have to force close. The minute i can watch pauses every few seconds as if i was only watching a scratched dvd.

I only tried the first file and i only tried it with QuickTime.... i assumed they were all in the same condition. QuickTime works perfectly with everything else so it cant be that.

Should i try other players (windows media player/ center)?

Or is there something i could download to fix it?

I tried to attach the first file that i tried to play. I clicked upload and it sat there for a bit then safari said it couldn't open the page

Carefully wash and pat dry the disc.

Copy the files to your hard disc and then burn them to a new disc.

If simple copy doesn't work, use Isopuzzle.

If that still fails, try polishing with Brasso, (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1zpEYqdLXWo )

Isopuzzle does not support audio cd, only data cd. Try one of the better audio rippers once you repair the scratches they have built in error correction. (EAC comes to mind)

Brasso only works well for minor scratches (its very abrasive and works by removing the clear surface to make it level with scratches), with deep scratches you will truly ruin the disk.
Clean disk and polish with wax (I recommend 100% carnauba), clean disk with water and let dry.

I've also had good luck with car scratch remover, the one I used recently says
"scratch and haze remover" on the label.
